  4. Textbook & Course Homepage Required: Principles of Physics with WebAssign (5th edition), by Serway & Jewett Course Homepage: http://www2.swccd.edu/~hlee Lecture notes, tutorial videos and HW solutions will be posted on this site.

  5. Lecture Notes (pptx Vs ppt) • All lecture notes (in Blackboard) will be in the new PowerPoint pptx format (for example: Lecture 170 00.pptx). This is the default format from Microsoft since 2007, so can be opened by any reasonably updated Microsoft Office. • In case you have an older version of Microsoft Office or you do not want to buy Microsoft Office, here are some free options: • PowerPoint Viewer (from Microsoft, PC only) • Open Office (PC and Mac) • Just google “powerpoint viewer” and “open office”. • Disclaimer: Some equations may not display correctly, so always bring printed notes to class to correct the equations.

  6. WebAssign Homework are online: www.webassign.net Use the access code that comes with the textbook, or subscribe online. The first 14 days are free (so you should get an account now even if you do not want to pay yet). Look in the syllabus for WebAssign class key. The class key will be needed when you sign up to WebAssign, so copy down the key now, or you can download the “Quick Start Guide” from: http://www2.swccd.edu/~hlee

  7. WebAssign (Continued) All homework will be graded automatically online. You have up to 4 attempts per question. All homework due dates are announced there as well, there will be no separate reminder, so please submit your work on time. Late homework will not be accepted and will receive zero point.

  8. Prerequisite Math 121 or equivalent

  9. If you need PHYS 172 and 174 later… The prerequisite for PHYS 172 is Math 122, so please make sure you sign up this semester. PHYS 174 is only offered once a year in the Fall, so plan your schedule accordingly.

  10. Grades Homework: 20% Quizzes: 10% Mid-term Exam: 30% Final Exam: 40% 100 – 85% A 84 – 75% B 74 – 60% C 59 – 50% D 49 – 0% F

  11. Attendance, tardiness, cell phones, pagers, etc… You may be dropped from this class

  12. If you are coming in late… Classes start on the clock Don’t slam the door and your backpack! Don’t disturb the others, be quiet
