Ephesians 6: 10-20 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

  10. The War, The Warriors and the Warfare • THE WAR (Ephesians 6:12, 19) 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against power, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

  11. The proximity of the war is that is here and now. It is not something involving some one else far away or long ago. It involves us here and now. B. The nature of the war is not primarily physical, political, financial, legal, or educational, It is spiritual.

  12. C. The intensity of the war is that it is a life and death battle. The word “wrestle” denotes “hand to hand combat to the death” (vs.12) Paul was jailed because of this warfare (vs. 20) and eventually executed because of it. D. The arena or the battle ground is the human soul. God has one weakness in the battle – People. He loves people and Satan knows it, so Satan attacks people.

  13. At the time everyone is born, they receive an enemy whose goal is to keep them from God. 2. At the time someone is born again, they receive an enemy whose goal is to keep them from helping otherpeople find God.

  14. God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. • Satan hates you and has a terrible plan for your life.

  15. E. The purpose of the War is to advance or stop the preaching of the gospel. (Eph. 6: 19,20). Eph. 6:19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel.

  16. Ephesians 3: 1-10 This mystery of the gospel is that non-Jews may be fully saved (3:6). This is good news (3:7) which is to be preached by the church to the Jews, non-Jews and to demons! (3:10). One side wants to get people into the kingdom of God by preaching the Gospel. The other side wants to keep people in the kingdom of darkness by stopping it.

  17. F. The Amazing Mystery of the War is that God has chosen to limit elements of His involvement to the activities of His Body, the Church. Vs 19, And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel.

When not in a human-like form, angels are described as wind, fire and stars (Judges 5:20; Job 38:7; Psalm 18:104; Heb. 1:7; Rev. 9:12)

  33. Devil Facts • The Devil was once the highest ranked angel. (Ezekiel 28:12-17; Isa. 14:12-14) • The Devil fell from this position because of pride. • The Devil led a group of angels to follow him (rev. 12:1-9)

Devil Facts • The Devil opposes God by using everything in his power. • He tries to lead the whole world astray by: Deceiving the lost (2 Cor. 4:4; John 8:44; Th. 2:9-10) Counterfeiting the work of God with false teachers (2 Cor. 11:13-15; 1 John 4:1-3; Mt. 24:4) and followers (Mt. 13:38-39; John 6:70-71) Stealing the truth (Luke 8:12)

  37. Demon Facts • Demons are not past memories, natural ailments, or not spirits of deceased humans. • Demons are fallen angels. • Demons rebelled against God with Satan. (2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6. Rev. 12:4)

  38. Demon Facts • Demons possibly number a third of the total number of angels created by God. (Rev. 12-3-4) • Demons appear as anything from the hideous to the angelic. (Rev. 9:7-10; 13-21; 16:13, 2 Cor. 11:14) 6. Demons do anything they can to keep people from God and Christians from being effective.

  39. What do Demons do? • Join Satan to war against God’s purposes. (Rev. 12:7; Dan. 10:10-14) • Everything possible to keep the lost from being saved including lie (1 Tim. 4:1); steal (Mk. 4:15); and even possess some. • Everything possible to keep the saved from being effective.

  43. THE WORLD 1 John 2: 15-17 • Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. • For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. • And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

  44. “THE WORLD” DEFINED: • Itis describing the physical universe (Acts 17:24, Romans 8:19-22) • It is referring to the human world of people (John 3:16, Matt. 22:39) • It is describing the system Satan now uses to oppose God. “With the rebellion of Adam in the Garden of Eden against God, this world was appropriated by Satan to serve his purpose, to promote his ends, and to further his rebellion against God.” J.D. Pentecost

  45. THE “WORLD” DESCRIBED In the Bible, the world is used for an evil system, opposed to God. It has a prince, a government, and a definite influence. When we are born, we are born into it and unwittingly under his influence. In 1 John 5:19 the KJV says, “And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.” The original language of the NT says that we are literally like a baby cradled in the lap of Satan.

  46. The NT describes the world as characterized by ignorance (1Cor. 1:21), marked by defilement (2Peter 2:20), distinguished by corruption (2Peter 1:4), and therefore set apart for judgment (1Cor. 11:31). This Satanic system for opposing the work of Christ on earth caused people to fail to recognize who Jesus really was (John 1:10) and to hate Jesus Christ and all who join with him (John 15:18) Therefore we are warned that we must not love it (the world)(1John 2:15)

  47. I think of the world as beautiful, seemingly peaceful river that is flowing away from God. It eventually leads to rough waters and a huge water fall. We must fight against it’s current and swim up stream. Failing to do so and just floating along leaves us pushed far down stream and further and further from God. Ultimately failing to fight the current results in us getting in water moving with insurmountable speed as it nears the falls. Eventually the faster and faster current of the world will carry the complacent person to destruction.

  48. HOW DOES “THE WORLD”ATTACK CHRISTAINS? Outwardly, it persecutes (John 15:18-21). Inwardly, it seduces us. The world is used by Satan to: • Pull us from God (2Tim. 4:10; James 4:4) • Pollute our spiritual lives (James 1:27) • Prohibit spiritual growth (matt. 13:22)

  49. Three avenues of inner attack: 1 John 2:16 “”For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” • Lust of the flesh: Deal with passion, sensual sexual pleasures. That which excites and pleases old nature. • Lust of the eyes: Speaks of possessions, things. • Pride of life: Deals with pride, power, self.

  50. WHAT IS WORLDINESS? The greatest command is to love God with all of your heart. (Matt. 22:34-37). “Anything that cools my love for Christ is the world.” John Wesley. The most important issue in life is our love for God! Satan uses the world to cool or steal that love. Worldliness is a matter of the heart!
