Fetal hydrops can be classified into immune and non-immune types, impacting fetal development. Immune hydrops occurs due to mother antibodies attacking fetal red blood cells, while non-immune hydrops is more common and associated with various factors, especially in lower socioeconomic regions. Despite advancements in prophylaxis for immune issues, most cases today are non-immune. Historically, Rh factor incompatibility was a major cause of fetal hydrops, but this has decreased significantly in prevalence.
