  3. Please… • Grab a cocktail glass on the way to your seat.

  4. What’s our purpose? • Our purpose is to pump up that social interaction! • We’ll explore ways to structure more interaction and sharing in your PLN seminars. • We’ll experience a few. • We’ll brainstorm how you might use them.

  5. Snowball fight • Take one of the post-its out of your glass and write your answer to the following: ”One thing that stands out so far, from SLW is....” • Wad that up in a little ball. • Throw it at someone on the other side of the room. • Pick up a ‘snowball” and throw it some where else. • Grab one near you. Read it silently. • Read your snowball to the group.

  6. How can we use it? • It’s safe because it’s anonymous. Everyone’s “voice” is equal in length. It’s a fast way to get a lot of ideas or points of view out in the open quickly. • How can you use this in your PLN seminars? • (How can teachers use this in their classes?)

  7. Cocktail party- for adults only First: a review of glasses Mingle #1: Find everyone with your same glass. Dophase 1 cocktail chit chat: Find out each other’s names. Where everyone is from Married/ single/other? Kids and pets? Grab your glass and mingle!

  8. Mingle #2: Champagne flute partner with a wine glass. Martinis partner with a highball glass. Dophase 2 cocktail chit chat: What are you doing this summer? Any vacations? What are your hobbies? Grab your glass and mingle!

  9. Mingle #3 Champagne flute partner with a highball glass. Martini partner with a wine glass. Dophase 3 cocktail chit chat: Read any good books? Seen any good movies? Been to any good restaurants lately? Grab your glass and mingle!

  10. Mingle#4 • Challenge mingle ( because things get more challenging the longer the cocktail party goes!) • Arrange yourself in groups so that you have one kind of each glass represented in your group. • Dophase 4 cocktail chit chat: • Anyone know a good joke?

  11. Head back to your tables • (Get phone numbers and emails addresses on your way. After all, this is a cocktail party!) • Discuss at your tables :How can you use this in your PLN seminars? What would you do? How would you do it? How could this be adapted? Share out.

  12. Dance card • Look in your glass. You have a dance card. Follow the directions on the card . Get up. Fill your card. ( Find folks you haven’t talked with yet, if possible.)

  13. Sample Dance Card Activity • Find your dance partners and answer the following questions: • With Dance partner #1: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? http://www.youtube.com/atch?v=XucbKof0HcU • With Dance partner #2 If you were on death row, what would you want for your last meal? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7m5vt07W2n4

  14. Keep dancing • With Dance partner #3:What 5 things would you take with you to a deserted island. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCAjmuA1HDk • With Dance partner#4: Who are 3 people(living or dead) you’d like to invite to a dinner party? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OE5QfmGM0D0 • Have a seat. You must be exhausted! How can you use Dance card in your PLN seminars?

  15. Spend your dots- Give a weighted opinion. • Look in your glass and take out the strip of paper with colored dots on it. Each dot is one ‘vote”. You may split your vote any way you like in order to give a weighted opinion. Let’s get a quick read of what you liked best, so far. Spend your dots! How can you use this?

  16. Character Match Demo(pairs) • I need 6 volunteers. • (When you do this in your class, everyone will have the name of a character on their back.) • Object: Try to guess what character you are and then find your partner. • Rules: You may only ask questions with YES or NO answers to get info about your character. • Let’s try it!

  17. More ideas for grouping • Use a deck of cards (same suit, odd/even/face card, black/red) • Equivalent fractions(or multiples or equiv. measurements, etc) • Give each student a card with a word on it. They have to find people with the appropriate words to make a sentence. • synonyms, antonyms, homonyms

  18. More ideas…. • Quick graphs • Opinion continuum • Inside/outside circle • Speed date • Find someone who • Survey Monkey and other digital surveys

  19. Ticket out the door • Any of this work for you? What can you use? • Write your answer on a sticky ( or 2!) and post it on your way out. • Thank you for participating!
