  2. Objectives • K: Students will know the meaning of address book • U:Students will understand composing messaging, grouping emails • D:Students will create a new message, add members to the address box, group emails and spell check

Composing an email • Click the Create Mail button on the toolbar – the New Message window opens • Type the recipient’s email address in the To: box • Use the Cc: box if you want to send a copy of the email to someone else • Type something in the Subject: box to say what the message is about • Type your message in the main window (the message box)

The Outbox • There are two sending options – sending an email immediately or putting it in the Outbox to send later • You can write messages to several people and store them in the Outbox – when you are ready, you can send them all at once, which is useful if you have a dial-up connection Al Ittihad Private School-Jumaira Module 7 “Web Browsing and communication” Amira Mohammed Zedan

  5. The Address Book • The Address Book is used to save the addresses of people you regularly send emails to • Click the Addresses buttonin the main window to display the Address Book window Al Ittihad Private School-Jumaira Module 7 “Web Browsing and communication” Amira Mohammed Zedan

Entering a new address • Click the New button on the Address Book toolbar and choose New Contact... from the drop-down menu – a blank Properties window is shown • On the Name tab, enter the First: and Last: names and Title:, with Middle: and Nickname: as well if you like • Click the arrow on the right of the Display: box and choose how you want the name displayed • Type the contact’s email address in the email Addresses: box • Click the OK button to enter the address – the name is now listed in the Address Book window Al Ittihad Private School-Jumaira Module 7 “Web Browsing and communication” Amira Mohammed Zedan

Adding to the Address Bookfrom an email Al Ittihad Private School-Jumaira Module 7 “Web Browsing and communication” • When you receive an email from somebody not in your Address Book, you can quickly add the sender’s address to the list • Right-click the message in the Message List pane • Select Add Sender to Address Book on the shortcut menu that is displayed Amira Mohammed Zedan

Group emails • Select each person you want in the group from the list of contacts, clicking the Select -> button to add them to the group • Click OK when you have finished • The Properties window now shows the contacts in the Group Members: section – check the list is correct • Delete a group member by selecting it on the list and clicking Remove • Add a new contact by clicking New Contact • Click OK Al Ittihad Private School-Jumaira Module 7 “Web Browsing and communication” • If you send regular emails to a large group, you can make a Group in the Address book • Open the Address Book • Click the New button and select New Group... – the Properties window appears • Type a name for the new group in the Group Name: text box • Click the Select Members button Amira Mohammed Zedan

Using the Address Book • You can now enter addresses straight from the Address Book when you send an email • In the Outlook Express main window, click Create Mail • In the New Message window, click the icon to the left of To: • The Select Recipients window opens • Select an entry in the Name list and click To: -> to transfer it to the Message Recipients: list • If required, select another entry in the Name list and click Cc: -> • Click OK to return to the New Message window • The recipients you have chosen will appear in the recipient text boxes Al Ittihad Private School-Jumaira Module 7 “Web Browsing and communication” Amira Mohammed Zedan

  10. Spell-checking • Click the Spelling buttonto find spelling mistakes • Choose the correct word from the Suggestions: list (or type the word you want into the Change to: box) • Click Change to replace the misspelled word and look for the next mistake • Click Delete to remove a repeated word Al Ittihad Private School-Jumaira Module 7 “Web Browsing and communication” Amira Mohammed Zedan

  11. Indicating email priority • If an email is urgent you can indicate this by clicking the Priority button arrow and selecting High Priority (or Message, Set Priority, High) – the email won’t get there any sooner but it will stand out Al Ittihad Private School-Jumaira Module 7 “Web Browsing and communication” Amira Mohammed Zedan
