  1. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 The Order of Things to Come

  2. The Scripture Says: • Verse 13 (NIV) Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope.

  3. Verse14 (NIV) We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.

  4. Verse 15 (NIV) According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.

  5. Verse 16 (NIV) For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

  6. Verse 17 (NIV) After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

  7. Verse 18 (NIV) Therefore encourage each other with these words.

  8. POINT # 1 Failure to appreciate this prophecy will cause us unnecessary grief. 1 Thessalonians 4:13 (NIV) 13 Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope.

  9. John 14:1-3 says 1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

  10. THE TWO PROMISES OF JESUS: • Jesus is preparing a place for His Church. • Jesus will come back for His Church.

  11. POINT # 2 You are going to have a hard time believing this prophecy if you can not fully believe in Jesus’ Resurrection and Ascension. 1 Thessalonians 4:14 (NIV) 14 We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.

  12. POINT # 3 This prophecy reveals a significant characteristic of God and that is He is a God of order. 1 Thessalonians 4:15 (NIV) 15 According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.

  13. POINT # 4 First the whole world will know that Jesus has come for His Church. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 (NIV) 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

  14. POINT #5 Secondly, the bodies of those who have already died will reunite with their soul and spirit in the air. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 (NIV) … and the dead in Christ will rise first.

  15. POINT # 6 Those who are alive when He returns will be snatched up and transformed as we meet Him in the air. 1 Thessalonians 4:17 (NIV) 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

  16. 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 says 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 (NIV) 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed-- 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.

  17. Two Additional Things Paul Reveals • How quickly it will happen. It a flash in a twinkle of the eye. In less than a second all this will happen. • There will be a change that takes place in our bodies as we meet Him in the air.

  18. POINT # 7 I long for His return so that I will be permanently united with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 4:18 (NIV) 18 Therefore encourage each other with these words.
