  4. Credits(This is like points for completing & passing a class.) • High School Diploma= 115 Credits • Full Year classes=5 Credits • Half Year classes= 2.5 Credits

  5. How many credits do I need in each subject throughout my high school career? • English= 4 (years) X 5credits = 20 credits • Social Studies= 3(years) X 5= 15 credits • Math= 4(years) X 5= 20 credits (Including Algebra 1,Geometry,Algebra 2) • Science= 3(years) X 5= 15 credits • PE= 4 (years)X 2.5= 10 credits *Think about career-may need more

Attendance and Credits • In high school you can be denied credit for excessive absences!!!!!!!!!! • No more than 8 absences for a half year class • No more than 17 absences for a full year class • NO MATTER what your grade is! • Tardies become absences, especially for your first period class. There is NO homeroom in high school! • PLEASE be on time everyday! Make regular school attendance a priority to avoid denial of credit or non-promotion!

  9. What level will I be in? Your teachers will recommend you for a level. • Honors (Accelerated) more demanding self motivated, independent worker *ELA & Soc. St.= Summer Reading *Science= INDIVIDUAL Science Fair project • College Preparation 1 (CP1) still challenging-prepares student to attend a 4 year college • College Preparation 2(CP2) skills and concepts reviewed-still prepares for college

  10. Does grade 8 Spanish count as 1 year of a foreign language? • Yes if- final average is a B or better in Spanish every day class! BUT Counts towards the 3-4 years Do not receive 5 credits for grade 8

  11. What is offered for foreign language? • Spanish • French • Latin (South only)

  12. What do I need to know if I am playing sports? • I can get kicked off the team if I have more than one F on a report card • Students need to be enrolled in at least (20 credits)

  13. What do I need to know about summer school? • You can only go to summer school if: - your average is above 50 - you have the recommendation of the teacher and principal
