BASIS FOR URBAN INNOVATIVE ACTIONS At the initiative of the Commission, it is proposed that the ERDF may support the costs of innovative actions in the field of sustainable urban development in 2014-2020(Article 9, proposed ERDF Regulation) The Commission is developing its detailed proposals for this new tool: Programmes for Urban Innovative Actions (UIA).

    3. CRITERIA UIA to foster innovative and experimental solutions in relation to sustainable urban development. A European-wide competition to identify the most forward-looking, cutting-edge proposals. Proposals selected based on their innovative content, credibility and transferability throughout the EU.

    4. MANAGEMENT UIA will be directly managed by the Commission. It will be delivered through programmes This is based on the experience of the Urban Pilot Projects (1990-1993 and 1997-1999) and the Regional Programmes for Innovative Actions (2000-2006).

    5. FINANCING UIA to be supported subject to a ceiling of 0.2% of the total annual ERDF funding (est. EUR 400 million). Payments to be linked to the production of outputs and the reporting and dissemination of learning and results.

    6. NEXT STEPS Discussion on detailed proposals in Council and with the Parliament Adoption of specificities after the adoption of the Regulations (during 2013)
