  7. The stallion is ejaculating as indicated by the flagging of his tail.

  8. The stallion should be allowed to dismount when he is ready.

  9. Washing a stallion prior to collection.

  10. Ground collecting a stallion. After training this can be a one person operation.

  11. Advantages of ground collecting is that it can be done any where and may be successful for stallions that refuse to mount.

  12. There are many commercial extenders available.

  13. The mare should be hobbled or placed in stocks. The tail is wrapped. The perineal area is scrubbed, starting central and working outward. This process is repeated.

  14. The semen is drawn into the syringe through the insemination pipette.

  15. A sterile, lubricated glove is introduced into the mare’s vagina along with the pipette

  16. The gloved pipette is placed over the end of the pipette prior to introduction of the pipette into the vagina.

  17. The plunger is slowly depressed. The syringe may be unhooked and rehooked so that 2 cc of air can push the remaining semen out of the pipette.

  18. The jockey club does not allow the use of A.I. or E.T.

  19. Quarter Horse: Cooled semen must be used within 72 hours of collection. Can use frozen semen. Only one E.T. progeny per mare per year. Parentage must be verified for A.I. or E.T. foals.

  20. In 1997 the U.S. Trotting Horse Association approved the use of frozen semen.

  21. Paints: Semen must be used with 24 hours of collection. E.T. foals can be registered. Pinto : Veterinarian must be present at time of insemination.
