  8. Daintree Rainforest • Located at 16 S / 145 E • The Daintree Rainforest has a history that stretches more than 135 million years. • The Kuku Yalariji people, are believed to have inhabited the rainforest for more than 9000 years. • Added to the World Heritage List in 1988

Benefits of the rainforests (ecosystem services) • Carbon sequestration – regulating climate • Tourism – economy support and biome protection • Medicine – 25% drugs contain products from rainforests (malaria, arthritis, diabetes). Some Daintree plants seem to be anti-cancerous • Logging – industry development from 1930s-1980s • Culture – aboriginals of the wet tropic rainforests believe that the biome is their living cultural landscape
