  2. Overview: Lexington’s Waste Fleet • Service 96,000 homes and 3,000 businesses each week • Municipal refuse fleet of 128 vehicles • 11 vehicles run on CNG with 2 additional units to be delivered by December

  3. Why Transition to CNG? • Lower cost of fuel, domestic product • $1.50 to $2 below the cost/gallon of diesel • Projected savings in vehicle maintenance • Annual savings of about $6,500 per truck in fuel and maintenance. Extend life of tune-up by 50,000 miles, and oil changes are good for an extra 25,000 miles. • Better for the environment • 20-30% reduction in greenhouse emissions And the vehicles are quiet!

  4. Lexington’s CNG Refuse Vehicles • Purchased as part of vehicle replacement schedule • Python Multi-Pack - $353,000/unit • 24 yard body, 12’6 inches tall (tanks on top) • 12 ton load capacity • 75 GGE fuel capacity

  5. CNG Mobile Fuel Unit • Conducted RFP for fueling • Council approved mobile fuel unit in April 2014 provided by Clean Energy • Unit provides two, fast-fill hoses • Official kick-off held August 2014

  6. CNG Investment • Save money, work more efficiently, help the environment • Drive change with CNG infrastructure • Lexington recently awarded $1.2 million in CMAQ funding for public station
