I founded Athena Capital in San Francisco 25 years ago. Initially the business focused on advising institutional investors on risk management, investment strategy, and asset allocation. While always a national firm, our headquarters migrated from California to Massachusetts in 1996 and we evolved into a registered investment advisor providing customized financial solutions to both individual and institutional investors.

  2. There is an entrepreneurial spirit rooted in the West Coast that has stayed with me as Athena Capital has grown into a leading outsourced CIO partner for high net worth clients. With our sights set on future growth, I am delighted to rejoin the Bay Area’s dynamic business environment with the opening of an office in San Francisco. This return-to-roots presence complements our headquarters in Lincoln, MA and our office in New York, NY. Located in the historic Ferry Building, the office serves the firm’s existing West Coast clients and deepens relationships with the extensive network of Bay Area investment managers used in client portfolios. The office is led by William McCalpin, Managing Partner, Impact Investments. The new office also advances our impact investing practice by connecting us more directly to the growing, West Coast community of solution-oriented entrepreneurs and investors. Athena has more than a decade of experience working with clients that are committed to addressing some of the most pressing global social and environmental challenges with investment capital. Through our presence on the West Coast, we seek to further contribute to the development of the impact investment community.
