  1. Matt Loether The social aspect of Salem attributed to the mass hysteria that occurred during the 1600s. Personal enemies and anyone not liked by others then became a “worshiper of Satan” and accused of witchcraft. This accounted for many of the accusations. The Crucible The fear of being the next person accused and lynched played a major role in the mass hysteria that took place during the Salem witch trials. Just knowing that anyone could be next caused chaos and paranoia throughout Salem. This case of mass hysteria is very relatable to even some modern events such as 9/11,Emanuel A.M.E Church, and, the War of the Worlds Broadcast. A Tale of Mass Hysteria This quote shows how some people were so scared of everything that was going on that they didn’t care when their neighbors were being killed. Rebecca Nurse: “[at the hanging] They are witches. They have sinned against God. It is His will.”
