Project Background • The idea for the wheelchair canopy is from a design project for a mechanical engineering class • A prototype has been made and we would like to patent the design • The project is a automatic retractable canopy for a wheelchair that goes from a position folded flat against the back of the chair to an upright position, covering the user from the weather

  4. Project Benefits • Protects wheelchair users from the rain and folds away neatly when they are inside • We will feature both an electronic and manual version for the two different types of wheelchairs • Currently there is one other retractable wheelchair canopy that has been patented and its design does not appear to be as functional or effective as our design

  5. Design Challenges • Differentiate project from current patent • Refine design • Make it more lightweight and user friendly • Make it adjustable for different wheelchair designs
