  2. PRODEX • PROgramme de Développement d'EXpériences scientifiques • ESA‘s Optional Programme • Czech contribution provided by MEYS („funding agency“) • Contribution gradually increased to 2,2 MEUR per year for 2017 – 2021 • Toolto ensure scientific returnfrom mandatory ESA‘s Science Programme

PRODEX – declaration • Purpose of PRODEX • To provide funding for the development of scientificinstrumentsproposedby research organizations in the participating States for use in the context of the scientific space programmes of ESA • To allow (1) theexecutionofnationalscientificspaceprogrammesconsidered by ESA as meeting the overal objectivesofitsownprogrammes and (2) theparticipation in missionsof non-MemberStates • To foster relationships between scientific and industrial circles • Supported projects • HW, SW, ground support, data exploitation, temporarystaff, contractswithindustry • Arrangements • ParticipatingstatesinformtheAgencyoftheiragreement to finance, through PRODEX, theselectedinstruments • ParticipatingStatesdefinewhattheywill finance

PRODEX – CZ Rules (1) • PRODEX funding for the development and production of scientific instrumentation (incl. components) for scientific space missions • With respect to PRODEX Declaration, the project must comply to the programmatic requirements of ESA (i.e. part of payload approved by ESA and by the consortium or approved by ESA SPC, in the case of third party missions) • Other projects not supported (data exploitation, non-flight HW/SW, not approved by ESA SPC…)

PRODEX – CZ Rules(2) • PRODEX Max. level of support for Phase 0/A: 5 000 EUR (for travel costs) • Personnelcostsincreased to max. 40 000 EUR per year/person employed by the Institute (forprojectssubmittedafter11. 9. 2017, before it was 8 000 EUR) • Overhead max. 10% of total costs • Proposal to be submitted to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports • Advisory committee – Czech PRODEX Committee • The evaluation procedure can last up to three months • Final decision by MEYS (Deputy Minister for Higher Education, Science and Research)

  6. PRODEX – SUPPORTED PROJECTS • Solar Orbiter • 5 projects on 4 payload elements • JUICE (JUpiter ICy Moons) • 2 projects • Luna-Resurs • 2 projects • non-ESA mission • PROBA-3 • ExoMars 2020 • Interest on ATHENA, eXTP, ARIEL, THESEUS, PLATO, SMILE

  7. PRODEX – available budget * An additional 3 191 500 EUR from Science Programme was used on payload projects on Solar Orbiter

R&D programmes of ESA supported by MEYS • Science Programme – 5,08 MEUR/year • Basic Activities – 2,26 MEUR/year • Guiana Space Center – 0,45 MEUR/year • PRODEX – 2,2 MEUR/year • Earth Observation Envelope Programme – 3,2 MEUR/programme period • Space Situational Awareness – 2 MEUR/programme period • Robotic Exploration – 1,5 MEUR/programme period Total: ~ 12 MEUR per year
