What is Montag afraid of at the firehouse? Why doesn’t Clarisse go to school?

  3. Notes on Theme • Theme is: • The general idea or main point of a story. It provides a message about life, from the author’s point of view. • Theme is NOT: • The subject of the story or the topic of the story.

  4. Theme vs. Subject • Which is a theme and which is a subject? • Love • Survival • The importance of standing up for yourself • Love conquers all • Power • Underestimating the power of nature can ruin our chances of survival

  5. Turning subjects into themes • Change these subjects into themes • Family • Honesty • Freedom • Friendship

  7. Theme Tracker • Each lesson for Fahrenheit 451 will focus on a new theme. Keep track of these themes in your theme tracker. • At the end of the unit, you will have to write a short essay based on one of these themes. • The more notes you write, the better prepared you will be! You may use this worksheet for your exam.
