These phrases are used with adjectives to compare 2 or more things or people • más + adjective + que = more… than • Mi hermanoesmásaltoque mi mamá. • My brother is taller than my mom. • menos + adjective + que = less… than • Nuestrashermanas son menosaltasquenuestropapá. • Our sisters are not as tall as (less tall than) our dad. • tan + adjective +como = as… as • Yo soy tanatléticacomo mi amigo. • I am as athletic as my friend.

  3. The adjectives always agree in gender and numberof the subject Mi tíaestansimpáticacomo mi abuela. My aunt is as nice as my grandma. Nosotrossomosmásbajosquetu prima. We are shorter than your (female) cousin. Tusperrosson menosgrandesque mi gato. Your dogs are smaller(less big) than my cat.

  4. When a comparison doesn’t involve an adjective, you use these phrases: • másque = more than • Me gustair a la bibliotecamásqueal gimnasio. I like to go the library more than the gym. • menosque = less than • Me gustanlashamburguesasmenosquelos tacos. I like hamburgers less than tacos. • tantocomo = as much as • ¿Te gusta leer tantocomomirar la tele? Do you like to read as much as watch tv?

  5. There are a few irregular comparative words, and once again, they agree in number and gender with the first noun • mayor = older • Mistíos son mayoresquemi madrastra. • menor = younger • Nuestrogatoesmenorquenuestratortuga. • mejor = better • La clase de españolesmejorqueotrasclases. • peor = worse • Lasuvas son peoresquelasnaranjas.
