1988 Douglass FRQ 2 Common Errors
Purpose/Audience • STOP making assumptions on what the purpose is/ who the audience is! • USE WHAT IS GIVEN TO YOU! • Re-read the beginning of the prompt. What does it say? • Are your assumptions in line with what is given?
Quote Analysis • Many of you give quotes (and often times choose great quotes) but then don’t actually DISCUSS the quote. • Look back at your essays & find your quotes/ • Ask yourself: • Do I give enough of the quote for the reader to understand? • Is the quote too long/too short? • Do I actually re-address the quote in my analysis or do I go off on my own analysis?
Inconsistent Errors Remember that after addressing the author by their first and last name, that you refer to them in the rest of your essay by LAST NAME ONLY. Grammar: You guys NEED to proofread. Some sort of conclusion is preferred. You DO NOT need 3 body paragraphs!!! 2 strong paragraphs is preferable to 3 weak paragraphs.
