  1. The New Tattoo Subculture Emily Johncox, Kristina Igoe, Erin Burdick, and Matt

  2. TATTOOS AND SOCIAL ACCEPTANCE • How do people see tattoos in differently? • How would getting a skull and cross bones be perceived differently than getting a butterfly? • Quotes from passage… • “I know it is not totally acceptable. I would catch crap if I ever showed up here in the future to teach with my tattoos hanging out…”- tattoos and how they are seen in the realm of professionalism • “ She lives in a place where she associates all tattoos with gang members” • Tattoos cause people to think narrow-mindedly- • not take into consideration about the person • Quickly judge those tattooed- judge a book by its cover

  3. THE “ARTIST” • The Tattoo artists are performers • The body is their canvas- tattooing is an art form • The difference between the front stage and the back stage… • Front stage- the front of professionalism that the tattoo artists put on for the customers • Back Stage- what goes on “behind the scenes”

  4. TATTOO REMOVAL • The essential questions… • If tattoos are meant to be permanent, why do people get them removed? • Why get something that is symbolic for one’s identity taken away?
