  1. Update on GMSB Conversion Efficiency Studies Informal Non-Pointing Photon Group April 22 2009 Bruce Schumm, UCSC/SCIPP

  2. Data Samples Need to find adequate release for studying conversions Thomas Koffas: 14.2.25.X, for X > 6, should be fine Use photon list only; converted photons are flagged GMSB1 GMSB2 14.2.20.3 (~10K events) 14.2.25.6 (~ 8K events) 14.5.0 (~ 1K events) 14.2.25.8 (~10K events) (All of these available as AOD except 14.5.0, which I reconstructed from RDOs.) NOTE: Relative to GMSB1, GMSB2 reconstructed in different release(s), and has non-pointing photons (two things change at once)

  3. Efficiency Calculation • Efficiency denominator: • True conversions for which the photon • Descended from the decay of a SUSY particle • has p > 10 GeV/c • has a radius of origin less than 500mm • has || < 1.37 • Is not a brehmstrahlung photon • Also, can add a “grav” requirement: • converted photon directly from   Gravitino +  •  Always true for GMSB1

  4. Efficiency Calculation • Efficiency numerator: • Strict truth-matched reconstructed photon conversions: • 1-Track Conversions: Track must truth-match to an electron from a conversion • 2-Track: Tracks must truth-match to one electron and one positron that arise from a single conversion. • No other requirements, except that conversion must be on official photon list.

  5. Efficiency for All GMSB Photons Deficit? Deficit? Deficit?

  6. Restrict GMSB2 to  Gravitino Decays Deficit? Deficit?

  7. Parting Thoughts • Indirect evidence for: • Degraded efficiency at high Rorg if you don’t use 14.2.25.X; X>6 • Degraded performance for non-isolated phonts (non-”grav” photons may not be isolated) • Degraded performance for non-pointing photons • BUT: Too many things changing at once to be sure. Need to consult/get control of reconstruction version. • (ALSO: Have signed up with egamma group that is re-optimizing conversion selection…)
