It is believed that according to church tradition St. Valentine was a priest near Rome in about the year 270 A.D. Under King Claudius II rule, marriage had been banned. When Valentine heard this, he felt terrible for those young and in love. Being Bishop at the time, Valentine went against the King’s orders and married a couple who were “young and in love”. When the King heard of this, he was outraged and immediately had Valentine arrested. The King was impressed with Valentine’s young dignity and strong sense of going against authority. The King tried to convert Valentine to the roman gods to save him from execution. Valentine refused and was executed on February 24, 270 A.D. History of Valentine's Day!
