  3. What is email marketing? • Form of direct marketing • Commerical and fund-raising messages • Very similar to direct mail marketing • Postal system to deliver messages • Advertisements • Goal: new consumers,persuade to buy

  4. How does it work? • List of adresses • Software – select groups • Target consumers by interests • Messages are send all at once • Track message • Links embedded in message • Software reports actions consumer • More effective

  5. Advantages • Direct marketing – reach target group fast and easily • Subscription – interests consumers • Check email more often than normal mail • Cheap – no print costs • Easily to track for advertisers

  6. Disadvantages • Often seen as spam • Email marketing is unwanted • Misused

  7. Opt-in system • Opt in : sent emails on a large scale • Permission consumer • Used for newsletters, marketing communication • Confirmed opt-in
