Efek Hujan Asam • Kesehatan manusia These gases interact in the atmosphere to form fine sulfate particles that can be transported long distances by winds and inhaled deep into people's lungs • Danau dan sungai Most lakes and streams have a pH between 6 and 8. In areas where buffering capacity is low, acid rain also releases aluminum from soils into lakes and streams; aluminum is highly toxic to many species of aquatic organisms. • Bahan material Acid rain and the dry deposition of acidic particles contribute to the corrosion of metals (such as bronze) and the deterioration of paint and stone (such as marble and limestone). These effects seriously reduce the value to society of buildings, bridges, cultural objects (such as statues, monuments, and tombstones), and cars. • Visibility Reduction Sulfates and nitrates that form in the atmosphere from sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions contribute to visibility impairment, meaning we can't see as far or as clearly through the air. Sulfate particles account for 50 to 70 percent of the visibility reduction in the eastern part of the United States, affecting our enjoyment of national parks, such as the Shenandoah and the Great Smoky Mountains.

  9. Penanggulangan Efek polutan SO2 • Hujan asam dapat ditangulangi dengan cara : • menambahkan kalsium hidroksida ke dalam danau secara berkala. • Dengan mengalirkan gas SO2 pada batu kapur lembab. CaCO3(s) + SO2(g) CaSO3(s) +CO2(g) • Kehadirannya dapat dikurangi dengan menahan sebanyak mungkin oksida belerang dan nitrogen agar tidak terlepas ke udara. • Melapisi logam yang mudah terkorosi karena hujan asam
