  1. Fractions and Decimals Unit of Study: Critical FCAT Review Areas Global Concept Guide: 2 of 3

  2. Content Development When creating the Critical FCAT Review Areas we tried to identify the major areas that fourth grade students have struggled with in the past. Use data such as district assessments (Form 2 and Mock FCAT), Unit tests, and performance tasks to determine the needs of your students. Please make note of the percent of the FCAT that assesses each of the reporting categories.

  3. Content Development • Possible lesson flow for each day should include: • Select fraction and decimal focus test questions from Mock FCAT or Form 2 District Assessments. Sample item questions and specifics for how the benchmark will be assessed can also be found in the item specs, which can be accessed by clicking on the hyperlinked benchmarks on each unit of study. • Students plan for and solve given problems. Whole group discussion points: • Efficient mathematical and reading strategies used to solve. • Answer choices that could be eliminated and why. • Misconception/procedural error for incorrect answer choices. (Ex: Why did the author write 25 or 26 as an answer choice?) • Was estimation used as a tool? How? • How do I check my work for accuracy? • Based on data and observations made during the problem solving part of the lesson, students then work in differentiated groups to engage in tasks selected from Reteach/Core/Enrich ideas referenced in this PowerPoint, as well as those differentiated activities (either used or not) from earlier Units of Study. {Unit 8, Unit 9, and Unit 10 }

  4. Differentiation: Reteach It is important for you to open and view these lessons to determine which are most appropriate for your students. • Small group instruction: select fraction and decimal focus test questions from Mock FCAT or Form 2 District Assessments. • Go Math Grab and Go Activities in Teacher Guided Small Group: • Activity 5- Review equivalent fraction models • Activity 12- Review equivalent decimals (tenths) • Activity 20- Review converting fractions to decimals • Florida Online Intervention Skills: 36and 38 • More or Less Game– Compare using benchmark fractions. • Fraction and Decimal Concentration– equivalent decimals • Go Math Reteach R73 and R82

  5. Differentiation: Core It is important for you to open and view these lessons to determine which are most appropriate for your students. • Go Math Grab and Go Activities: • Activity 5- Review equivalent fraction models. • Activity 12- Review equivalent decimals (tenths). • Activity 20- Review converting fractions to decimals. • More or Less Game– Compare using benchmark fractions. • Fraction and Decimal Concentration– Equivalent decimals • IXL: Problem Solving Website– Decimal matching and problem solving. • 4th Grade Voyages Anchors Lesson: Comparing Fractions

  6. Differentiation: Enrich It is important for you to open and view these lessons to determine which are most appropriate for your students. • Go Math Big Idea Projects: • Building Custom Guitars– TE p. 263-264; Student Benchmark Practice Book P145-P146 • Shape of Phones– TE p. PG44-PG45; Student Benchmark Practice Book P327-P330 • Decimal Design: Representing decimals and finding equivalent fractions between tenths and hundredths. • Dismissal Duty Dilemma: Using decimals and fractions interchangeably.
