Inclusive Education Promotion through Community Integration for Children with Disabilities in Rwanda 2007-2009

This project, implemented over 36 months from 2007 to 2009 in Kigali City and Southern Province, Rwanda, aimed to facilitate access to inclusive education for children with disabilities. Funded by the European Commission in partnership with European development NGOs, led by Handicap International from France, local partners like HRD and Umwana Nk'Abandi were instrumental. The overarching goals included empowering disabled children to engage in community activities, enhancing educators' skills in special and inclusive education, and promoting inclusive education within the Ministry of National Education. Specifically, the project targeted providing specialized or inclusive education tailored to the autonomy and integration needs of disabled children and adolescents.

OBJECTIFS • Objectifs globaux: • Les enfants et les adolescents en situation de handicap participent aux activités de leurs communautés de base  • Les compétences des éducateurs et des enseignants en éducation spécialisée et intégratrice sont améliorées ; • Le Ministère de l’Education Nationale est engagé dans la promotion de l’éducation intégratrice • Objectif spécifique : Les enfants et adolescents en situation de handicap bénéficient d’une éducation spécialisée ou intégratrice centrée sur leurs besoins d’autonomie et d’intégration
