  2. 2011 April BOE elections • All three RNEA-recommended candidates won. • The difference between third and fourth place was 329 votes. • The candidate who came in fourth. Declined to go through the RNEA recommendation process. • He later wrote on his Twitter profile: “My life’s goal is to rid public education of union dominance.”

  3. 2011 April BOE elections • Out of the 79, 640 registered voters, the candidate winning, Keith Kinder, received 7,068 votes. That means less than 9% of the registered voters voted for him. • The third ranked candidate received a little over 6% of the vote.

  4. 2011 April BOE elections • The largest population of registered voters in the district: • Wildwood: 15,741 • Fenton: 14,976 • Wildwood/Ellisville: 13,076 • Compared to: • Eureka: 7,084

  5. 2011 April BOE elections • The greatest voter turnout in the district: • Eureka: 16% • Compared to: • Wildwood: 7.5% • Fenton: 7.5% • Wildwood/Ellisville: 9%

RNEA’s role in elections • Recommendation process • A committee of RNEA members interview and screen all candidates willing to participate. • Committee deliberates and then recommends. • RNEA can only recommend a maximum of the number of open seats. • Campaign process • Join a campaign. • Phone banks. • Hanging literature and putting up signs. • Working the polls.

April 2012 BOE elections • Two BOE seats open. • You can make all the difference. • Volunteer to… • Work on a campaign. • Make phone calls. • Hang signs. • Work the polls. • Attend BOE meetings. • Over 1,600 MNEA members live in the district. That is a large voting block. • Talk to your neighbors, family and friends.

  8. Other ballot issues • Tax referendum. • Tabled for November. • Should know more after Sept. 26 BOE meeting. • Bond issue. • Cabinet and BOE haven’t said anything. • Already have postponed renewing the no-tax increase bond for technology by one year.
