The Proposal • The proposal is to set up “BBRAINS CENTER FOR ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH (CATR)” a research center on company Model”at Patna to design and develop products and promote advanced research in the scientific fields. • The center will be established in a joint consortium of BBrains Development Society, TekBrainsPvt Ltd, and NRIs. The technical assistance, guidance and support for developing Lab, designing courses and its teaching methodologies will be given by the experts of Foreign universities, the scientists of DRDO and IITs.

Introduction • Since its inception in June 2005, BBrains Scholastic Center, BBSC has successfully executed projects related to science & technology, human resource and development and other philanthropic areas. It also organizes short term courses, workshops, Seminar, orientation programs on cutting edge technology and other career courses for youngsters. • Bihar Science Conference (www.bbscindia.com/ScienceConference), • Manthan, an International e-Magazine (www.bbmanthan.info) • are some of the projects of this center which are doing great and have potential to make a difference. • In giving shape of complete "Gyan Kendra", our executive committee on July 23, 2009 has decided unanimously to establish following centers of education from the support of our global members and investors. • Center for Personality development and human resources (CPDHR) • Center Advanced Technology & Research (CATR) • Center for Management Sciences (CMS) • Center for Language Sciences (CLS) • Center for Hindi Language Development (CHLD) • Center for e-Learning (CEL) • Center for Technical and IT Services (CTIS) • Center for foreign affairs (CFA)

  4. About CATR • CATR is the state-of-the-art higher education and research reform effort. The CATR develops (/combines) academics with technical and product design and development ability, process management along with entrepreneurial, professional and critical thinking skills to cope up with fast changing market needs. • CATR provides a state-of-the-art research and technology facility where students learn complete cycle of product development and design complete projects in collaboration with national and international partners. CATR develop students as entrepreneur, critical thinker and problem solver.

  5. Objectives • The main objectives of this center are • To focus and develop workforce in research & development for advanced and emerging technologies. • To create manpower by providing training in advanced technology areas which offer premiere employment and business opportunities • To establish collaborative partnerships with national and international organizations in higher education & research to empower the Center and to offer coursework that is responsive to challenges in business/industry • To provide practical training to scientific professionals on complete cycles of system design process, and its manufacturing and mould them for critical thinking, design innovation and ability to accept engineering challenges for developing quality products.

  6. Proposed Courses • CATR proposes to offer M.Tech, M.S,M.SC, Post Graduate Diploma (one year), Advanced Diploma (6 months) and certificate courses to the prospective candidates of engineering and science streams. • The subject areas for research & development and courses are • Biotechnology & Bioinformatics • Microelectronics & VLSI Design • Embedded systems • Telecom & networking technologies • Computer Sciences & Software engineering • Nano science and Technology

  7. Graduate Attributes • CATR aims to produce higher education graduates who are capable in their chosen profession. Within this context it is the intent of CATR that its higher education graduates have certain graduate attributes. • Graduates: • are capable in their chosen professional, vocational or study areas • operate effectively in work and community situations • are adaptable and manage change • are aware of environments in which they will be contributing • are entrepreneurial in contributing to innovation and development within their business, workplace or community

  8. Certification and Accreditation • CATR plans to get course wise accreditation from universities • M.SC/M.Tech/MS courses: from Magadh University • M.SC/M.Tech/M.S courses (Distanced Education from Sikkim Manipal University • Advanced Diploma, PG Diploma courses from IGNOU, CDAC etc.

  9. Association and Chairs • Proposed to be Associated with IKP Knowledge Park, Hyderabad. Discussion in Progress. MOU may be signed in Feb2010. • Association with Konkuk University, Korea in Biotechnology. • Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of Bihar.

Advanced Biotechnology & Bioinformatics Lab • The program aims to provide in-depth studies of the key areas of biotechnology, including molecular biology, bioinformatics, medical, industrial, forensic and agricultural biotechnology, and the diverse applications of these areas • This program aims to provide advanced education in biotechnology and to prepare students for undertaking diverse types of careers in this field, e.g. medicine and health, agriculture, pharmaceutical and environmental industries, biotechnology businesses, as well as the education sector.

  13. Aims & Objectives • The Biotechnology and Bioinformatics  programs are designed to develop: • Introduction to the basic theoretical principles and experimental skills in biotechnology for the graduate diploma level, and mastery of the advanced theoretical principles, experimental techniques and applications of biotechnology for the master level • a sound and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and practices in biochemistry molecular biology, microbiology and chemistry, which are the foundations of biotechnological developments • an understanding of the diversity of medical and industrial practices through which laboratory discoveries are applied on a wider scale • an appreciation of the moral, ethical, legal and social issues and values in relation to professional practices in biotechnology • flexibility of thought, independence as well as teamwork, safe laboratory practices, record-keeping skills • sound professional skills and attitude • advanced communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written

  14. Opportunities CATR Students gain additional skills in: • information gathering, evaluation of published information, critical analysis of data • experimental design, problem-solving • preparing results for peer-evaluation publication through written reports/minor thesis journal articles and/or presentations at conferences • Career Opportunities: • Medical laboratory scientists, • scientific officers or research and development scientists in diverse fields including: • biochemistry, microbiology, and molecular biology, • diagnostic services and pathology services, • pharmaceutical industries, forensic science laboratories, • veterinary science, agribusinesses, biotechnology businesses, • food technologists, • quality assurance officers, • occupational health and safety officers, • scientific sales representatives/ executives, • associates to patent attorneys, • staff with science publishers, newspaper writers in this field, • PhD students in any of the above fields.
