  3. Education • UG at OSU and grad program at Pacific U • UG major in Exercise Sport Science with focus in Athletic Training • Doctorate in PT • Min. of 7 years: 4 yrs UG and 3 yrs grad school (he took 8 with 5 yrs in UG)

  4. Competiveness? - Getting into Pacific is very competitive (only graduate program in Oregon)-Getting a job? There is a huge market demand right now

  5. SKILLS REQUIRED -Anatomy-Functional exercise-Interpersonal-Medical knowledge-Sports & nutrition

  6. WHY Physical Therapy? -Interest in Medical Field- He got hurt & had to do PT. He found it interesting & fun!

  7. WHY MONMOUTH? - Wanted to be in Midwestern valley-Wife is from Corvallis & didn't want to move- Rural area- Wanted to deal with post-surgery patients & students- Got job at a job fair put on every year at pacific for grad students

  8. TYPES OF PATIENTS - Variety: sports related (ex. ACL repair), motor vehicle accidents (ex. neck & back), elderly, and some times farmers- 25% patients are sports related-Range from grade school children to 80 yr olds

  9. WORK DAY • -4 x 10hr days a week-Very tiring like any job-30-45 minutes with each patient- Get a list of patients for each day-Evaluations take about hour long (new patients)- Stretching, & rehab program then chart notes

  10. MONMOUTH PT NORTHWEST -2 PTs & one AT (trainer at central high school)

  11. BEST PART OF JOB? -Working with people-Helping people- He loves anatomy so its fun

  12. WORST PART OF JOB? -Paper work-Dealing with insurance

  13. Advice? -Start researching now while an UG-Look at grad programs early-Apply to more than one place-Volunteer & get experience in the field-Finish prerequisites to get them out of the way
