  3. Assignment 53: Nature Walk Card Sort March 22, 2011 • Examine each of the cards you created. • With your partner, sort the cards into groups. Select your criteria to determine what types of groups you will use with your partner. • Record the groups you used and the names of each card in the group.

PRODUCER – any organism capable of making its own food (plants, blue-green algae.) CONSUMER – any organism that eats other organisms for food (rabbit, ant, lion.)

  9. Categorizing the Environment March 22, 2011 CONSUMERS can also be examined based on the types of relationships they share. A common relationship in nature is the PREDATOR / PREY relationship. PREDATOR – any organism that preys (hunts and consumes) on another organism. PREY – the organism being hunted and eaten. Example: A lion hunts and eats a gazelle.

  10. Categorizing the Environment March 22, 2011 Examine your consumer cards. Are any of your examples predators or prey? Label with back of each card as predator or prey. Some organisms can be both. For each labeled predator, give an example of what it would prey on. For each labeled prey, give an example of a predator that would eat it. PREDATOR – any organism that preys (hunts and consumes) on another organism. PREY – the organism being hunted and eaten.
