  2. SharePoint in brief Microsoft SharePoint is a content management system (CMS) designed to organize company information into a simple, centralized location. It is a server managed repository, that’s web enabled for users to organize, manage, search and collaborate.

Collaboration Collaboration • Several site templates available: e.g. Document Workspace site template for working together on documents, Meetings site template for managing several kinds of meetings • Synchronization of SharePoint calendars with MS Outlook • Management of wikis, blogs and forums • Keep informed about updates through RSS • Management of projets through tasks list. Tasks can be assigned to other people, and progress can be viewed through Gantt charts • Possibility to access SharePoint sites with mobile devices, thanks to the management of simplified formats SharePoint Platform

  9. Portal (people and personalization) Portal • My Site: every user can manage his personal site, where he presents info about himself, his skills and roles in the institute (social networking) • Personalization of the info displayed, based on the user SharePoint Platform

  10. Search Search Powerful search engine, able to: • Find the person you are looking for, based on his description, his title, his projects,... (My Site) • Find the right document. Search based on metadata and the content of the document.E.g. Search for all Word documents containing the word « Peeters » and written in French • Retrieve data from external applications, like a SQL database or an ERP • Rank search results using the same technology as MSN SharePoint Platform
