  10. Public Affairs Committee Report The association created and delivered a highly successful multi-content area booth at Maryland Day this year that directly interacted with over 1,000 attendees. Distributed there and well received were the 300 MD FCS sponges that were purchased.I recommend for 2009 - 2010 that we commit to Maryland Day again. That we again purchase some modestly priced promotional items (like the sponges) to support this and to promote FCS education. And that we spend the next 6 to 9 months evaluating the feedback on how and to whom we market FCS education and perhaps develop a set of written and agreed guiding principals for marketing FCS education both internally and externally from 2010 forward.   13. 2010 NEAFCS Annual Session • Leadership Recognition Event (Louise Kirkland- Maine- Co-Chair of 2010) • Cruise in the Casco Bay area • MD-WV Commitment (from JCEP) • Event invites 70-80 leaders in NEAFCS • Cost will be about $50.00 pp. • Our role – • Develop a Committee w/Chair (Rebecca!!!) • Communicate w/WV • 2 members of Maine Affiliate • MD needs to contribute $. • Start making connections with cruise co. • Check out the availability of tours • Get budget figures • Share info w/Louise on National Planning Committee

  16. 2009 Public Issues Leadership Development • MCE Admin Team asking for at least 1 rep from NEAFCS-MD • National conference sponsored annually by JCEP • April 27-29, 2009 - Key Bridge Marriott, Arlington, VA. • Participants will: • Discover opportunities in change; Will meet 6 directors who are providing leadership to details of new farm bill • Learn more about public issues partnership with USDA, federal agencies & non-profits organizations • Learn how to improve communication w/public decision makers • Spend a day on the Hill with members of Congress & staff or schedule and make federal agency visits

  17. 2009 Public Issues Leadership Development • Kendra Wells, Chair • MCE team needs to be identified- all program areas. • Attend a 3-4 hour training before participating in PILD • Commit to entire PILD conference- (Mon-Wed) • Provide info & follow-up to MCE, through an ed program. • Provide support to 2010 MCE team to PILD (orientation & • possibly overlap in attendance at 2010 PILD) • MCE Admin team has supported this effort in past years. • $150 scholarship/state from National •  Team identified by December 1st

Stop, Plan and Ponder • Review your dossier, vitae, reports, impact statements • Talk with peers • Plan dates to work on your applications • Print the 2009 Awards-At-A-Glance document and/or the 2009 Awards Manual • Select the awards that are most meaningful to you • Communication awards are a good start

  29. Eligibility Requirements • Dues paid by February 1st. • Award recipients must be active and/or life members. • Team leader/members must be NEAFCS members by February 1. Non-NEAFCS team members are not eligible for monetary awards and will receive only a certificate. • Individuals and/or teams may receive only one national award or fellowship in the same year, but may submit applications in more than one category (does not include DSA or C.E.). • A member, as an individual or team member, may not receive the same award in two consecutive years.

  30. Procedure and Format • One signed copy of the On-line Awards Application is required to be submitted with your Award Application. • Judging criteria is listed for each award. This will help you know what is expected from the information you provide. • Make sure if you use the NEAFCS or Living Well logo that they are used properly. • Letters of support required for some awards. Does yours need one? • Affiliate VPs submit their winners for the DSA and CE Service Awards. These are not judged nationally.
