  2. Thailand - Back in Business “THE TIME HAS COME FOR THAILAND TO REGAIN ITS POSITION IN THE WORLD’S BUSINESS ARENA, AND TO FACE UP TO THE CHALLENGES OF THE GLOBAL FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC SYSTEM.”

  3. Thailand has Fallen Behind • The stock and bond markets have significantly under performed as a result of : • Political instability • -Flawed policies • Poor economic and earnings growth

  4. The People’s Agenda • The Democrats will launch “The People’s Agenda” to reclaim Thailand’s place by putting the people first. This involves a three-pronged approach: • Restore confidence • Invest to increase competitiveness • Invest in people

  5. Restoring Confidence • The Democrats will:- Push for abolition of the URR • Shelf current attempts to amend FBA • Commit to further liberalize the economy, including the Telecom sector • Protect the public interest through the use of • Competition Law + Commitment to International Standard Governance

  6. Productivity is Key • Competitiveness will be addressed in all sectors • Reinvent a more efficient bureaucracy • Irrigation for improved yields and farm income • Add value to agriculture • Alternative Energy • Reduce logistics costs / Efficient Transportation • Promotion of the service sector

  7. WE NEED TO SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVE OUR LOGISTICS INFRA-STRUCTURE TO LOWER FACTOR COSTS Logistics cost / GDP Proportion of logistics costs Inventory Warehouse and supply chain Logistics

  8. Investing in the People • - Village Sufficiency Fund • - Improve education opportunities and quality • Enhanced Universal Health Care • Extension of social security, savings and pensions programs

  9. Thailand has Adequate Financing Capability to Fund the Programs • Social programs affordable • Infrastructure investments affordable given substantial room for additional leverage on national balance sheet. • Expected program spending over 5 years: • Mass transit: 250,000 million baht • Rail: 200,000 million baht • Irrigation: 100,000 million baht

  10. Putting the people first – Now! • Our aim to “ Putting the People First” will generate the people’s support for our programs • Political will to overcome coalition problems
