  3. Our work on the 802.11 standard has impact A story – 1999 January and July IEEE 802.11 technology and unlicensed spectrum puts the power of wireless networking in the hands of consumers and enterprises/service providers Enables broad innovation, productivity improvements, problem solving and applications globally Using 802.11 capable media devices, laptops, tablets, phones, wearables, network equipment and the list expands Slide 3 Dorothy Stanley, Aruba Networks

  4. Current and Future 802.11 Technical Work • Progress current amendments and SGs • AH, AI, AJ, AK, AQ, HEW, MC • Continue and strengthen regulatory outreach to protect and grow unlicensed and available spectrum access – Regulatory • Continue identification of new work areas: WNG – IOT, Smart Grid • Continue to use ISO JTC1/SC6 as our venue for international standardization using the IEEE Partner Standards Developing Organization (PSDO) Agreement and SC6 collaboration process - JTC1 • Continue working relationships with other 802 and IEEE groups • ARC, AK joint meetings, .18. ,19, EC , Standards Association, Standards Board, OmniRAN • Existing and additional liaisons as needs arise: Use WFA market input, uses cases as input to technical amendment development, IETF, 3GPP, and others Dorothy Stanley, Aruba Networks

  5. Processes and culture support technical productivity • Our processes need to be tools to improve productivity while maintaining due process: • Operating Procedures • Website and Document Server • Meeting and telecon infrastructure • Our culture also plays a role in our success • Focus on the technical, professional meeting practices and interactions • Open, balanced participation • Follow IEEE policies and procedures for standards development Dorothy Stanley, Aruba Networks

  6. We will meet the challenges that arise • Advocate for WLAN unlicensed and available spectrum • Create new work areas and opportunities for 802.11 technology development • Leverage market growth across all segments (not just enterprise) • Continue to work together effectively and professionally • Small group dynamics matter: all voices heard • Focus on technical progress • Efficiently manage required processes and implement improvements to them • Articulate VALUE of the 802.11 venue: includes base upon which future innovation builds for forward compatibility, international standard, broad review • Outreach to other organizations: use 802.11 as THE WLAN standards development venue • To continue and increase the global impact of the 802.11 standard Dorothy Stanley, Aruba Networks
