  5. The school day is made up of 9 periods 2 periods : Language Arts 2 Periods: Mathematics 1 Period: Science 1 Period: Social Studies 1 Period: Lunch 1 Period: Encore class 1 Period: Encore class

  6. How long are the class periods? • Period 1 is 6 minutes longer for announcements, • Channel One News and attendance • Core class periods last 86 minutes. • Encore classes last 41 or 42 minutes • Lunch periods last 40 minutes • Students have 4 minutes between • classes

  8. Each grade level has 2 teams of teachers who teach the core subjects. • 6th Grade – 2 Teams of 6 teachers • 7th Grade – 2 Teams of 6 teachers • 8th Grade – 2 Teams of 7 teachers The Encore teachers make up another team. • There are 9 teachers on the Encore team

We offer accelerated courses in Language Arts and Math PLACEMENT CRITERIA • Current and previous OAA scores • Performance on placement test • “A” in subject (current school year) • Teacher recommendation “Accelerated Language Arts” or “Accelerated Math” will automatically appear on schedules of students who have met the placement criteria.

  22. Report Cards and Interim Reports Report cards are sent home with students every 9 weeks. Interim reports are sent home with students 4 ½ weeks into each grading period.

  30. LOCKERS Each student has his/her own locker. Locker combinations are given with the student’s schedule. Teachers have keys if students need help. We give students plenty of time to learn the combination.

  35. Office Procedures Absent students Send a note with your child when he/she returns to school Call the school office prior to 8:30 A.M. Ask for a medical note if your child was seen by a physician

  36. Late arrivals - arrival after 7:55 A.M. Early dismissal – departure before 2:45 P.M. Office Procedures Parents must sign students in/out in the office. If absence is due to a medical appointment, be sure to bring a physician’s note.

  37. Office Procedures Drop off before school and pick up after school • Enter school grounds via Saxe Rd. • Wait in parking lot nearest the stadium • No need to sign student in/out with the office staff

What comes next? • Mr. Stockley and Mrs. Blake will visit Suffield and Brimfield Thursday and FACA on Friday. • Band demonstrations will be completed during the next week. • Turn in course selection sheet to homeroom teacher before next Thursday, May 10. • Look for a letter that will be mailed home during the second week of August. • Come to FMS to pick up your schedule on one of the designated days. You may find your classroom and locker during that visit. • Come to Orientation in August if you have questions. • Attend Open House to meet our teachers.
