  1. 10-9 Technology, Software & Jobs Presented by S a n j o g J a i n For CS691, Winter 2002 January 25

  2. Overview • Whats Nano ( 10 –9) Technology is all about ? • Can Matter become software ???? • Research work underway in US, Japan, Europe & Canada… • Some Funny but Sensible comments….. • Job(s) & Useful Links • Conclusion

  3. Whats nanotech ???? • It is the creation and use of materials , instruments , and systems involving matter that measures between 1 and 100 nanometers. • nanometer = one billionth of a meter (10 –9 meter ) • Researchers will be able to control , manipulate and characterise matter as well as understand how to exploit its properties. • Nanotechnology is expected to launch a veritable technological revolution

  4. Nano is just starting • Despite the research over past two years, this field is still very much in its infancy. • The area of electronics and especially computers will soon hit sky…… • Nanoelectronics research at private companies, public laboratories, and university centers will lead to the discovery of new technologies likely to replace those that exist today. • Lastly, computer simulations are crucial to nanotechnology. They require extremely powerful computers as well as new simulation software.

  5. Can matter become Software ???? • believe that matter Will be Planned, Constructed, Exchanged like software. • New programing language “ ATO “ • Motto : Don’t just know the future, create it!

  6. Atomasoft Strategy • Partner with manufacturers • Create the media • Create the simulation/design • Create the software • Create the marketing • Sell the design / simulation • Create better partnerships • Create faster, better & cheaper devices

  7. Atomasoft’s Law :: When nanotechnology becomes a reality, manufacturing industries will split in two: Design/Simulation + Manufacturers Miniaturization * ( design /Simulation + Manufacturing)= Globalization in the industry.

  8. Atomasoft’s Architechture

  9. Theory behind the idea …… • Matter will become music (easy download) • An universal OS as universal as “ ATOM “ • Synonyms of matter will become software • Why will matter become software? • Better than open source • Programming everywhere • A new business model

  10. Atomasoft’s goals • Develop new theories , methods, software essential to describe the properties of electronical, chemical, biological, and materials systems. • Apply the new methods to critical problems faced by scientists and engineers in industry and academia. • Assist industrial and government laboratories with support and guidance on theory, modeling, and simulation. • Transfer this technology to industry through collaborations, publications, and workshops.

  11. Atomasoft’s Future Organisation

  12. Research underway in US, Europe, Japan & Canada

  13. America • Public funding for nanowork in the US increased dramatically. • Agencies that involve are NSF and NIH and Defense. • Workshops near Universities

  14. Japan and Europe • For Europe research will increase by 13% within couple of years. • Research centers are outfitted with Latest Equipment and Extensive staff support.

  15. Works in Canada ( alberta & Quebec ) • Plan of Nanotechnology institute in Alberta • 60 researchers are active in nanotechnogy at Quebec Universities • Funds and infrastructure being raised to pick up the pace in coming years.

  16. Continued……. • Universities and government recruit 54 research professors specialised in Nanotech • Minister for research, science and technology take responsibility for establishing a major center specialised in nanotechnology within three years. • Substantial federal government contribution for the development of nanotechnology in Quebec.

  17. What will be the Effect of Nanotech…….. "Will the concept of money be valid in a mature nanotechnology industrial future? When anyone can ask their computer for self-assembling consumer goods, made overnight in the corner of their garage and using free materials from the atmosphere, where does the concept of cash come in ? "

  18. Continued……… If you chafe at the restrictions put on the use of proprietary software today, imagine the frustration of proprietary code for the nanomanufature of items, such as foodstuffs. It could look something like this: By nanofaturing this sandwich using Consolidated Global Nanocodes software, you agree to the following restrictions and limitations. You may only make one copy of this sandwich, on one nanofacturer. You may not transfer, or lend this program to any other person, organization or device. You may not share the recipe for the sandwich, or try to reverse engineer the ingredients by taste, smell or any other sense. You may allow another to smell your meal, but may not share the meal with any other person, or organization. Consumption of the meal by another requires a separate license. Breach of this License is bound to result in severe criminal penalties under the intellectual property laws, and can include, but is not limited to, repossession of the meal by force, before, or after consumption, and/or 5 years in a Global Nanocodes institution for the criminally insane .

  19. Job(s)

  20. Good news for C/ C++ Programers • Are you a creative programmer looking for a challenging project that will help revolutionise the world ? • Project involves the development of a simulation software known as NanoSim that will allow users to design, store, and simulate their molecular constructs computationally. • For further details visit www.atomasoft.com

  21. Job continued……. • Job Title: QC Computer Application Administrator • Location: Carolina, Puerto Rico • Job Category: Biotechnology • Job Type: Full-time • Job ID: 6540-K0217-KW BS or BA Computer Science, Math or Science. Must have experience in computers such as: programing and troubleshooting or experience in QA in Pharmaceutical Area.
