  3. Hybrids @ Tri-C Ahybrid course: • combines online learning with face-to-face classroom instruction • reduced amount of time spent in the classroom • class time involves essential structured learning activities • online instruction provides the student more flexibility

  4. Pedagogical TTD list • Re-examine course goals and objectives • Consider what do you want your students to know • Transition from lecture centered to more learner centered (Active Learning)

  5. Communicate high expectations • Create shorter, lower stakes assessments • Design rubrics • Avoid common tendency to cover too much material • Develop learning activities for f2f & online

  6. Face to face activities • Orientation • Introduce Bb • Present information which needs context interpretation processing • Analyze • Synthesize • Find application to their lives

  7. More face to face activities • Present complex assignments • Conduct demonstrations, presentations, group activities, exams • Share web searches • Continue online discussion, address misconceptions • Hold brainstorming discussions (knee jerk responses, idea generation) • Build consensus

  8. Online activities • Read/Listen to lectures • Answer thought provoking questions based on readings • Research topics- Post Web searches with summaries • Write drafts or assignments which require more critical reflection

  9. More online activities • Conduct peer reviews • Test - Chapter quizzes • Interact and discuss topics which require deeper thinking • Formulate content related questions for others to answer
