  3. Early Life • Was born in January 23, 1862 • Born in Königsberg ,Germany (which is now Kaliningrad, Russia). • Hilbert received his Ph.D. from the University of Königsberg • In 1895 he was appointed to the chair of mathematics at the University of Göttingen

  4. Accomplishments • 1888 he proved his famous Basis Theorem. 1892 Hilbert produced a constructive proof which satisfied everyone. • He published "Grundlagen der Geometrie" in 1899

  5. Later Life • Died in Feb 14, 1943 • Died in Göttingen, Germany • In 1930 Hilbert retired and the city of Konigsberg made him an honorary citizen of the city.
