For the Teachers • This program is for children who are in fifth grade. • The children are to do this program individually and will need head phones to listen to the movies. • The objective for the child is for him or her to better understand why the American Revolution happened and be able to achieve an 80% on the end quiz.   9. Definitions • Tax- charge usually of money forced by government on the people of the country • Parliament- an meeting of the nobility, clergy, and commons called together as the supreme legislative body in the United Kingdom P N M

  10. Definitions • Massacre- the act of killing a number of usually helpless human beings under circumstances of cruelty • Repealed- to revoke by a authoritative act P N M

  11. Definitions • Protest-  the act of objecting or a gesture of disapproval ;especially: a usually organized public demonstration of disapproval • Ammunition- the projectiles with their fuses, propelling charges, or primers fired from guns • Examples: bullets and cannons P N M

  12. How to get Money In 1760 Kind George III became king of Britain. At this time Britain was in a need of money because it trying to run a country in two different places, America and Great Britain. P N M Picture of King George III

  13. How to Get Money Since taking care of the colonists was so expensive, Parliament decided to start taxing the colonists more and more. P N M The Parliament Building in London

  14. The Stamp Act • The Stamp Actwas passed in 1765. • Taxed newspapers, almanacs, pamphlets, legal documents, dice, and playing cards • Stamps were put on these objects to prove the tax was paid. P N M The Stamp

  15. The Stamp Act The colonists were angry when The Stamp Act was passed. They did not like how they, the colonists, had no representation in Parliament. P N M

  16. The Stamp Act • The protested the tax, and they said, “No taxation with out representation.” On March 19, 1766 the Stamp Act was repealed. P N M

  17. Boston Massacre • In March of 1770 the British shot into a crowd of colonists in Boston • The British killed three people, and the event was named the Boston Massacre. • This increased anti-British feelings P N M

  18. Boston Tea Party Cause Effect P N • Next, the parliament passed the Tea Act where the tax on tea increased for the other tea companies. Not for British tea. • The British could sell their tea for a lower rate, and would make more money M

  19. Boston Tea Party Cause effect P N The colonist could only afford British Tea In December of 1773 some of the colonists dressed as Native Americans and went aboard the British cargo ships in Boston harbor, and dumped all the tea in water. M

  20. Boston Tea Party Cause Effect P N The Parliament became extremely angry with the colonists. So they passed the laws know as the intolerable acts. These laws made the colonists receive permission from the government to hold meetings and limited their freedom. M
