Copy down and decide if each statement is true or false and explain why. • Science is a system of beliefs • Experiments are used to prove ideas • All scientific ideas are discovered through experiments • When a theory has enough evidence, it becomes a law • Scientific ideas can be modified or disproved, but never proved.

  3. Opener 8/28 Get out your homework so that I can check it. Opener: Compare and contrast observation and inference. How are they similar? How are they different? At least 4 sentences.

  4. Opener 8/29 • What makes something scientific? • What is science based on? • What is science NOT based on?

  5. Opener 8/30 3rd Period • Describe a time when you did an experiment in a science class. What happened? What steps did you take?

He wants to find the density of the rock. How would he do this? Use as much detail as possible.

  24. 10/2 • Turn in your worksheet from yesterday if you took it home for homework. • Opener: • An object with a mass of 10 kg is pushed with a force of 2 N. Calculate the acceleration that will happen. • If the object has a mass of 20 kg, what will the acceleration be?

  28. 10/8 • Opener: Please reflect on the quote on the wall. Write a 5 sentence reflection. What does this mean? How does it relate to school / your life?

  29. 10/9 • Make sure you have turned in your “Newton’s 3rd Law” packet and your “Friction Reader.” Many of you are missing these assignments! • Opener: • How do friction and applied force compare to each other when the boat is moving at a constant speed? Are they balanced or unbalanced? Why?

  33. 10/15/12 • Opener: • John is riding in a go cart. He is holding an ice cream cone piled high with scoops. When he makes a sharp right turn, what happens to the scoops of ice cream? Which of Newton’s Laws explains why? • Please be sure to sharpen your pencil before our quiz today.

  34. Opener – 10/17 • If an object starts at position 4 and ends at position 10, what is its displacement? ∆x = xf – xi ∆x = displacement xf = ending point xi = starting point

  35. Notes – 10/17 • The first way to measure motion or movement is called displacement • Displacement is how far an object is from where it started • It is different from distance because it also tells you the direction something went • Positive number = forward direction • Negative number = backwards direction ∆x = xf – xi ∆x = displacement xf = ending point xi = starting point

  36. Opener – 10/18 • Do you think the inventors of the roller coaster were white or black? Why do you think so? • Does the fact that Mr. Wurz is white affect the way you view this class?

  37. Reflection • Reflect on the video you just saw. Underneath your opener for today, please write down your reflection on the video you just saw. What are your thoughts and feelings?

  38. Opener – 10/19 • A girl is hanging from a rope. The force of gravity acting on her is 200 Newtons. If all the forces acting on her are balanced and the net force is 0, what is the force of tension in the rope pulling her up? Draw a diagram of these two forces acting on her and show that the net force is 0.
