  1. Optical Position Sensor for the VWS.Some issues to take into consideration Jose Luis Sirvent Supervisor: Jonathan Emery Student Meeting 31 October 2011

  2. 1.Continuing with the reflection • A) If a collimator is ordered it would be good to make a custom accessory.

  3. 1.Continuing with the reflection • Last week simulations/calculus with Zemax showed that this approach has a high tolerance in linear distance. • Limits: 4.5 mm distance to disk, diffraction, aligment angle.

  4. 1.Continuing with the reflection • A) If a collimator is ordered it would be good to make a custom accessory. • This week I still gathering information to improve this approach

  5. 2.Issues to take into account • Spherical aberration: • I said that the focal distances in the simulations doesn’t fit the specifications. • I made a mistake, It was spherical aberration. • Typical in Plano/Convex lenses (Our theoricAccu-Glass colimator)

  6. 2.Issues to take into account • Spherical aberration: • Possible solutions: • Meeting with Aurelie (how to quantify the aberration and improve my knowledge of the program)  AchromatDouplets • Contact with Edmund Optics: No possible achromats, not vacuum compatible and temperature too high, but yes Aspheric lens. • Achromatic Lens Aspheric lens

  7. 2.Issues to take into account • Spherical aberration: • Possible solutions: • Spherical lens vsAspherical lens • Diam: 25mm • Focal Dist: 25mm • Data according to Edmund Optics (Very small spot size!) • Our spot Size limit is <100um

  8. 2.Issues to take into account • Splitters and Circulators: • It’s possible to use Splitters for our application, but they are not the optimal solution. Circulator Splitter

  9. 2.Issues to take into account • Performance comparation between splitter options and circulator.
