This document summarizes the activities and findings from the FoCal high granularity prototype tests conducted at CERN during March 2014, including test beam periods at PS and SPS. It highlights the data analysis, calibration challenges, and the ongoing simulations from previous data sets. The document also covers the participation in upcoming conferences and the results from previous test beams at DESY, detailing the performance of the digital prototype and the alignment procedures for improved spatial resolution.

CERN test beams 2014 with focal prototype (low+HIGH layer granularity) • We asked for 2 test beam periods: • PS: 2 weeks at T9 (mixed beams: e-, π) in September; • SPS: 1 week at H6 (high energy electron beam; mixed beams) in December. • PS-SPS schedule (preliminary) • https://sps-schedule.web.cern.ch/sps-schedule/ E. Rocco - FoCal meeting- ALICE week CERN
Focal presentation & publications 2014 • Incoming conferences (up to now): • Quark Matter: poster accepted • TIPP2014: accepted contribution (speaker: T. Chujo) • ICHEP 2014: contribution to be submitted (spekear E. Rocco) • …. • Past conferences: • - ICTR-PHE 2014: poster (authors: D. Aadnevik, E. Rocco)(proton therapy) E. Utrecht current activities • 1.Data analysis and simulations ongoing on the previous data set (2012 PS &SPS data) -> problems on chips calibration • calibration using clustersize for pion tracks • charge diffusion implementation E. Rocco - FoCal meeting- ALICE week CERN
Utrecht activities: simulation data ER= 6,2% ER= 5,2% A factor of 2 of difference E. Rocco - FoCal meeting- ALICE week CERN
Utrecht activities: • 2. Continuously data taking with cosmic data: • - noise calibration (done!) • - noise time stability • - complementing the info of the prototype for different threshold settings to Cosmic data after“calibration” Cosmic data before “calibration” E. Rocco - FoCal meeting- ALICE week CERN
Utrecht activities: Uniformity within the layer, missing channels E. Rocco - FoCal meeting- ALICE week CERN
Utrecht activities: What about the cluster size for tracks? E. Rocco - FoCal meeting- ALICE week CERN
Utrecht activities: Before alignment • 3. Alignment is important to properly estimate the shower shape (lateral) After alignment ~40 μm spatial resolution, but it is just first iteration E. Rocco - FoCal meeting- ALICE week CERN
Test beam at DESY – February 2014 • Parasitic beam users, nevertheless in 1 week of data taking (mostly night shifts) we collected enough statistics for the following energies: • 2, 3, 4, 5(just few runs) and 5,4 GeV • At 2 GeV 3 different threshold settings (low, standard, high) • Participants: • Bergen group: S. Yang, D. Joshi, D. Aadnevik • Utrecht group: G-J Nooren , T. Van Brink, M. Reicher, C. Zhang, H. Wand, M. Dietze, M. Mohammadi, E. Rocco. E. Rocco - FoCal meeting- ALICE week CERN
