  2. About the Platypus • semi-aquatic mammal • From eastern Australia • It is 15 inched long from head top tail • Weighs 3 pounds • It is a carnivore

  3. Oddest Animal • Scientists first to examine a platypus believed they were the victims of a hoax because its was so unusual. • They have sharp stingers on the heels of their rear feet and can use them to attack any of their enemies.

  4. Platypus Food • The platypus is a bottom feeder • They eat insects, larvae, shellfish, and worms. • They usually also pick up mud and small rocks when they eat because it help them chew because they don’t have teeth.

Reproduction and Life • They are one of two animals that lay eggs • When they hatch they are the size of a lima bean • The mother will stay and nurses the babies for about 4 months till they can swim on their own • When it does leave it will find a mate and then lay eggs • After it lays eggs and they babies are old enough to go out on their own it will soon die
