History of Teacher’s day. • Each year in India, Teacher’s Day is celebrated on the 5th September to honor a celebrated academic, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. • Dr. Radhakrishnan was born on September 5th, 1888. He was India’s first Vice President and the second President. He was also a great scholar, philosopher and a bharatratna recipient.

Significance of Teacher’s Day • Dr. Radhakrishnan was a great scholar and it is said that his students were always keen to celebrate his birthday. • Instead Dr. Radhakrishnan was the one who suggested that instead of celebrating his birthday it would be a privilege if that same day would be observed as Teacher’s Day.
