  1. Pregnancy Food Cravings

  2. What Pregnancy Food Cravings is? Craving for food is different from hunger in the sense that you experience an intense desire for a specific type of food. Many of these cravings seem to come out of nowhere, and they can feel overpowering. Women during pregnancy just don’t seem to get over it. They may feel the craving at anytime and about anything from sweets to pickles, just anything.

  3. What Causes the Craving? There are different hypotheses about how these cravings that are specific to pregnancy occur: • Some are hormone-based, which explain that several hormones shift significantly during pregnancy. • Others explain gestational diabetes as a reason. Research indicates that these women will crave sweets at a very high rate, especially during the second trimester. • Over half of the women with this type of diabetes of pregnancy will crave sweets, and this craving tends to resolve by the time they deliver.

  4. Food and Non Food (Pica) Cravings During pregnancy women may crave for food and non food items. These cravings may be due to some kind of deficiency. • Foods: Women in pre-natal stage crave for Ice creams, Chocolates, Pickles, Soda, Coffee, Beans and Greens, Spicy foods etc . • Non Food (Pica): Pica is the practice of craving substances with little or no nutritional value. Most pregnancy and pica related cravings involve non-food substances such as dirt or chalk.
