  1. The Boda BodaThieves SYNOPSIS A family from the countryside struggles to survive in a shantytown on the outskirts of Kampala. With the help of a military officer from their village, and after using their lands and livestock in the same village as collateral, they obtain a moto-taxi that is supposed to free them from their poverty. On the first day of work, the moto-taxi is stolen, and father and son set out on a frantic search that will lead them to discover the ins and outs of modern urban Ugandan society. Inspired by Vittorio de Sica’s Bicycle Thieves. THE PROJECT Donald Mugisha and James Tayler represent a new generation of African filmmakers. They assume the digital era naturally, they like the freedom of being an independent company and fearlessly confront socially engaging film projects, taking the pulse of the society that they are part of. Both live and work in Africa and do not picture themselves living abroad. The Boda Boda Thieves’ script is being rewritten. The project dossier is available both in English and Spanish. This project is presented in África Produce thanks to the co-operation with the co-production workshop Produire au Sud of the Festival des 3 Continents de Nantes (France) and the support of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) of South Africa.
