  4. Pass Patterns • 1 – 1-2 yard Quick Slant – release left continue depth and pattern • 2 – 2-4 yard Quick Out – release right continue depth and pattern • 3 – 7-10 yard square In – read DB and Zone • 4 – 7-10 yard square Out – read DB and Zone • 5 – Hook – read DB inside or out and depth they are playing • 6 – Comeback – aggressive 9 pattern, then cut it off to the outside and come back to ball on about a 45 degree angle towards the sidelines • 7 – Post – read Safety and zone for depth of 45 degree hard cut and speed up field • 8 – Corner – read Halfback and Corner for coverage and depths and cut approximately 45 degrees up field to the sidelines • 9 – Fade – give about 7-10 yards in from sidelines. When possible, when sprinting up the field, get as close to DB as possible, then take an outside release and fade to the sidelines while increasing speed. Wheel – about 3 steps to the out, look back for ball and then turn it up field fading to the sidelines. Ball should come to inside shoulder Post Curl – ¾ speed, break hard to 45 degrees like a full post for 2-3 steps, then stop, come in and back to QB, reading zone or man Corner Out – ¾ speed, break to corner for 2-3 steps, then break hard on 90 degrees out towards the sidelines, reading man or zone Patterns are always Inside to Out (No matter what side) Example 1 – Play call – I Left, roll right 86 – 86 = Corner by Slot and Comeback by WR Example 2 – Play Call – Bomb Squad Right 741 – 741 = Post by Slot, Out by RB, and Slant by WR

  5. Hole Numbering 3 1 4 6 7 5 2 8 QB is number 1, FB is number 2, TB is number 3. Play called 23 would mean fullback through 3 hole.

  6. I Formation 58 Misdirection (I Formation 47 Misdirection) Back side SB motions behind QB at snap, takes handoff for end around. FB leads through 2 hole. HB follows. QB fakes the 32 lead. O-lineman all down block, except for RT who hooks DE. Playside SB blocks OLB or helps with wide DE.

  7. I Formation Fake 58 32 Misdirection (I Formation Fake 47 31 Misdirection) Back side SB motions behind QB at snap, QB fakes handoff for end around. FB leads through 2 hole. HB follows. O-lineman all down block, except for RT who hooks DE. Play side SB blocks OLB or helps with wide DE.

  8. I Formation Fake Misdirection 17 Keep (I Formation Fake Misdirection 18 Keep) Back side SB motions behind QB at snap, fakes end around. FB leads through 2 hole. QB fakes to HB and keeps left. C and LG double DT, RG and RT block down.

  9. SB 58 Misdirection 287 Pass (SB 47 Misdirection 287 Pass) Back side SB motions behind QB at snap, fakes handoff for end around. FB leads through 2 hole. HB follows. QB fakes the 32 lead. O-lineman all pass block. Play side WR runs post, Playside SB runs deep corner. Back side slot runs a swing route. QB reads Corner, Post, then Swing

  10. I Formation 34 Lead (I Formation 33 lead) FB leads through 4 hole. HB reads FB block and runs to outside. Play side SB crack on DE, backside SB blocks OLB or Safety

  11. I Formation Fake 34 Lead, SB Reverse (I Formation Fake 33 lead, SB Reverse) FB leads through 4 hole. HB follows. QB fakes handoff to HB. backside SB starts towards LOS, then turns and reverses across to take handoff from QB. Heads to the outside, cuts up where other SB starts from. SB crack on DE, backside WR blocks OLB or S. Can have SB throw pass from this play

  12. I Formation 34 Lead, SB Pass (I Formation 33 lead, SB Pass FB leads through 4 hole. HB follows. QB fakes handoff to HB. backside SB starts towards LOS, then turns and reverses across to take handoff from QB. Heads to the outside, looks for WR running streak. If not there runs. SB crack on DE, backside WR blocks OLB or S.

  13. I Formation Fake 34 Lead, QB Option Right (I Formation Fake 33 lead, QB Option Left) FB leads through 4 hole. HB follows. QB fakes handoff to HB. backside SB starts towards LOS, then turns and reverses across to take handoff from QB. QB fakes to SB and rolls right. Looks for WR on streak If not there runs. SB crack on DE backside WR blocks OLB or S.

  14. I Formation Fake 34 Lead 91 Pass (I Formation Fake 33 Lead 91 Pass) FB leads through 4 hole. QB Fakes to HB, 3 step drop. OL pass block. SB run streak. WRs run 2 yard slants. QB reads S/Halfback. Check to Slant if S/HB does not come up to support run. If Fake 34 look Right side 1st, if Fake 33 look left

  15. I Formation 36 Counter (I Formation 35 Counter) FB fakes to 5 hole and blocks backside DE. HB takes step to 5 hole then counters to 6 hole. Backside WR and SB block S and HB. Playside SB blocks DE or OLB. Backside G pulls to lead. Backside OT pulls to 3 hole. Playside G and T double team DT or DE, C blocks down or goes to 2nd Level.

  16. I Formation 24 Counter (I Formation 25 Counter) QB fakes toss to HB on sweep. FB takes 2 steps towards outside then turns back and takes handoff. LG pulls to lead. LT hooks DT. C blocks DT and then heads for MLB. Back side SB blocks inside on DE. Play side SB blocks DE. RG and RT double the DT. WR blocks CB, offside WR blocks safety

  17. I Formation 21 Dive (I Formation 22 Dive) QB hands to FB who runs through 1 hole HB fakes sweep , SBs block OLBs, WRs block safeties

  18. I Formation Fake 21 Dive, 38 Flip (I Formation Fake 22 Dive, 37 Flip) QB fakes to FB who runs through 1 hole. QB spins and shovels ball to HB, SBs block OLBs, WRs block safeties

  19. Pro Trips Right SB Screen (Pro Trips Left SB Screen) Backside SB lines up outside playside WR, motions towards formation FB and HB motion towards LOS aiming at 6 hole QB takes quick drop and throws to SB, catches behind screen from RBs QB can fake the screen and throw to either WR who are running deep Can also run this out of shotgun.

  20. Pro Trips Right SB Screen Hook and Ladder (Pro Trips Left SB Screen Hook and Ladder) Backside SB lines up outside play side WR, motions towards formation FB and HB motion towards LOS aiming at 6 hole QB takes quick drop and throws to SB, catches behind screen from RBs WR catches then flips ball to RB running past him. RB runs to the sideline and up.

  21. Pro Fake SB Screen, FB Counter (New York) Backside SB lines up outside playside WR, motions towards formation FB and HB motion towards LOS aiming at 6 hole. QB takes quick drop and fakes throws to SB, RBs reverse field. FB takes handoff from QB ‘Boise State’ style. HB leads block. Can also run this out of shotgun.

  22. Pro Tanks Sprint Left 114 Pass QB Fakes 36 lead, sprints left. Right TE comes across formation, runs quick in. QB reads right to left, or can run. O-line pass blocks slant right. Backside WR runs cross formation in behind LBs.

  23. Pro Tanks Motion Right 36 Lead Double Tight Formation. Pre-snap Left WR motions to right QB turns to HB(3) and drops back, RG to block DT, Center chip blocks and attacks MLB Right TE double teams DE with RT Right WR lines up tight to formation. Comes back and reverses to Left

  24. Pro Tanks Motion Right 33 Counter Double Tight Formation. Pre-snap Left WR motions to right. QB turns HB(3) and drops back, HB starts to right and then cuts back left RG to block DT out, Center chip blocks and attacks MLB Right WR lines up tight to formation. Comes back and reverses to Left Left TE looks to chip left then head downfield. Right TE looks for Safety

  25. Pro Tanks Motion Right Fake 36 WR Reverse Double tight Formation. Pre-snap, Left WR motions to right. QB turns HB(3) and drops back. Fakes to HB and gives to WR. RG to block DT, Center chip blocks and attacks MLB. Right TE double teams DE with RT. Left TE has to get out and lead. Right WR comes back and reverses to Left

  26. Pro Tanks Motion Right End Around Double Tight formations. Pre-snap FB motions to right flat. HB Motions to just outside TE. Backside WR motions towards formation. LG pulls around TE. QB rolls to rolls left, hands to WR on end around. QB can read backside corner if he goes with WR, QB can keep on the naked bootleg.

  27. Pro Tanks Motion Naked Bootleg Double Tight formations. Pre-snap FB motions to right flat. HB Motions to just outside TE. Backside WR motions towards formation. LG pulls around TE. QB rolls to rolls left, fakes to WR on end around. Left TE chips then runs corner. QB can read backside corner if he goes with TE, QB can keep on the naked bootleg. If Corner comes up, QB passes to TE

  28. Pro Tanks Motion Right 777 Sprint Two Tight end alignment. WRs are off LOS. Pre-snap, HB motions to Right flat. FB motions right, just off TE. Playside WR motions towards formation. On snap, QB fakes reverse to WR and boots left. FB comes across formation in front of QB and runs a quick post toward sideline. RG Pulls around TE. HB and backside WR run deep posts across middle of field. QB reads safety and looks for WR then HB then FB. QB has option to run.

  29. Pro 38 Sweep (Pro 27 Sweep) RG Pulls. Centre take MLB. Tackle on back side moves to down field block. Can fake pitch and QB carries ball to back side.

  30. Pro 25 Off Tackle (Pro 36 Off tackle) QB hands to FB who will go through 5 hole. HB Lead blocks Play side slot will crack on DE. QB can fake and bootleg out.

  31. Pro 25 Sprint Right 349 Pass (Pro 36 Sprint Left 349 Pass) QB fakes to FB who will go through 5 hole. HB Lead blocks. QB bootlegs right. Back side slot will chip DE and run drag across field. Play side slot will chip on DE and run ‘drag across formation. Backside WR will run a streak QB reads deep first, then checks down to slots or runs.

  32. Pro 25 Cross (Pro 36 Cross) (Pro 18 Keep) QB fakes to HB who will go through 4 hole. FB take one step to right then cuts back to 5 hole, off tackle. Back side guard will quickly move to down field block position. WR on play side will double team end or LB. WR on back side will go after safety. QB can fake to both RBs and bootleg out.

  33. Pro Mix 247 QB fakes to FB &HB, 3 step drop read Sam backer, looks to play side SB. 2nd read is HB. QB then looks for backside SB on deep drag route. HB chip block DE and run out, FB hit DE on left WR on backside runs an out

  34. Pro Guard at 1 (Guard at 2) QB bootlegs right. Center holds ball, RG takes ball and runs between C and LG. Back side slot will chip DE, Play side slot will chip on DE.

  35. PRO TRAP 33 (PRO TRAP 24) QB turns fakes to FB(2), step turns to HB(3) and peels out, RG pulls to block DT, Center chip blocks and attacks MLB LG double on centres man and sticks SB gets Safety, LT Sam LB, WR Will LB

  36. PRO SHOVEL 32 (PRO SHOVEL 21) QB turns and starts to roll to right as if to pass, FB moves left faking a swing pass. LG pulls to lead through 2 hole. LT down blocks. Left side SB blocks down to DE, Right side SB blocks DE or OLB. HB comes underneath QB and takes shovel pass, follows LG up middle. QB pitches about continues to outside. WRs block inside towards S or Halfbacks

  37. Pro Sprint 38 Draw Pre-snap SB motions to left. QB sprints left with ball up for pass. Hands ball to TB. RG pulls and kicks out OLB , rest of line slants left. FB takes DE.

  38. Pro Sprint 427 Pass Pre-snap SB motions to left. QB sprints left, fakes draw to TB. O-line slants left. QB reads CB, if drops back throw out, if he stays up throw sluggo.

  39. Pro Smoke 36 Delay (Pro Smoke 25 Delay): QB reads corner playing back. One step drop and throw to WR. Play side SB motions and blocks corner. RBs and O-Line run 36 delay. QB has option to throw pass or fake pass and give to RB.

  40. Ace Right Gun 33 Shovel FB lines up slot right. O-Line pass blocks. RT takes DE outside then goes 2nd level. TB takes 2 steps right then cuts back left to accept pass. QB drops 2 steps back then shovels ball to TB. Left SB cracks in on OLB. Other receivers bluff routes before stock blocking.

  41. Ace Left Gun 549 Pass Single back Right. QB throws hook or out depending on what OLB does WRs run stop and go. Left SB runs out, stop in hole of zone unless man. O-Line pass blocks, slant right. FB lines up as TE left. If pressured from front side, QB can roll and look for TB on swing or WR on stop and go.

  42. Ace Left Motion 13 Read Option (Ace Right Motion12 Read Option) SB lines up off LT. FB motions around RB and leads through 3 hole . QB reads Left DT. If DT crashes inside run, QB keeps to 3 hole. If DT contains, QB hands to RB to 1 hole. TE goes for OLB. LT kicks out DE. LG chips DT and heads 2nd level. C and RG double Right DT. RT blocks DE.

  43. Ace Right Power 34 FB motions 1 yard of 4 hole. TB takes handoff runs to 4 hole. LT blocks DE. LG pulls and looks for LB or S. C blocks down on DT. RG blocks DT. RT goes 2nd level looks for MLB. FB blocks DE. SB blocks OLB

  44. Ace Right Flip 247 Pass FB Lines up in I. Pre-Snap TB motions from Slot to I formation. QB fakes dive right to FB, then fakes a flip to TB. LT blocks DE. LG doubles DE or DT lines up closest to him. C blocks down on DT. RG and RT double DT. TE blocks DE. QB reads corner, looks for Slant 1st, then Out

  45. Wild Horse Power Right QB Lines up as slot left. TB takes snap runs to right looking for hole. TE blocks DE. LT chips DE at POA then heads 2nd level. LG pulls to 6 hole to lead block. C blocks DT over LG. RG and RT double DT at POA. TE blocks DE.

  46. Wild Horse Shift to QB 975 Pass QB Lines up as slot left. Before snap, QB motions under centre. 3 Step drop, look for TE then SB. OL slants right. TB moves up to replace TE in blocking scheme. Backside WR cracks in next to TE.

  47. Ace Gun 15 Read Option FB lines up on left. QB reads Left DE. If DE crashes run, QB keeps to off tackle. If DE contains, QB hands to RB to 6 hole. FB goes for OLB. RG and C double DT. RT blocks DE.

  48. Gun Fake 27 Option Right Gun Fake 38 Option Left QB fakes to FB. TB runs to left. QB keeps and reads unblocked DB. Can option to TB or keep. TE and LT double DE at POA then head upfield. LG and C double DT. RG reaches for DT. RT blocks DE. TE to 2nd level. Play side WR runs his man off deep.

  49. Gun SB Motion 38 Gun SB Motion 27 Gun 800 Pass Sweep 27/38. Left SB goes in motion. Read left OLB. If he stays, then it is 38. If he goes with slot, then run 27. Depending on OLB LG Pulls either right or left. Centre take MLB. Tackle on back side moves to down field block. Can fake handoff QB carries ball to back side. Read, or run throw, LG pulls to left. Left WR runs skinny corner route.

  50. Tanks Gun Roll Right TE Pass TB line up as left SB. Pre-snap motions to outside right of formation. QB takes snap, rolls right. FB moves to block DE. Right TE sneaks across LOS. QB throws back to TE. If defense does not bite, QB keeps on sweep. Line slides left in pass protection.
