  3. Safe storage and transport of Sayana Press Sayana Press is stored and transported in the same way as DMPA in a vial: • Store at room temperature (do not refrigerate). • Store and transport out of direct sunlight and heat. • Store out of reach of children and animals.

  4. Do not touch the needle. Do not recap the needle. Do not overfill the safety box. Do not dispose of used needles in anything other than a safety box. Safe handling of needles Discard the needle immediately. Return the used safety box when it is 3/4 full to your supervisor or the health care facility.

  5. Preventing infection • Wash hands with soap and running water before and after giving an injection. • Handle sharps carefully to reduce needle sticks. • Always use a safety box.

  6. Caring for a needlestick injury • Right away: Wash the site with soap and running water only. • Do not put anything else on the site after washing. • Report needlestick injuries immediately to your supervisor. Source: CDC, 2001.
