  1. I’ve heard it said

  2. that people come into our lives for a reason,

  3. Bringing something we must learn.

  4. And we are led to those who help us most to grow,

  5. If we let them, and we help the in return.

  6. Well, I don’t know if I believe that’s true,

  7. But I know I’m who I am today because I knew you.

  8. Like a comet pulled from orbit as it passes a sun,

  9. Like a stream that meets a boulder halfway through the wood,

  10. Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better?

  11. But because I knew you,

  12. I have been changed for good.

  13. It well may be that we will never meet again in this lifetime,

  14. So let me say before we part:

  15. So much of me is made of what I’ve learned from you,

  16. You’ll be with me like a handprint on my heart.

  17. And now whatever way our stories end,

  18. I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend.

  19. Like a ship blown from its mooring by a wind off the sea,

  20. Like a seed dropped by a skybird in a distant wood,

  21. Who can say…if I’ve been changed for the better?

  22. I do believe I have been changed for the better…

  23. Andbecause I knew you…

  24. I have been changed

  25. For good.
