  2. Introduction • What is a Project? A project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to accomplish a unique product or service with a defined start and end point and specific objectives that, when attained, signify completion. PMBOK definition

  3. What is Project Management? Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques applied to project activities in order to meet or exceed stakeholder needs and expectations from a project. PMBOK definition

  4. What can go wrong in a Project? The major cause of project failure is not the specifics of what went wrong, but rather the lack of procedures, methodology and standards for managing the project PMBOK definition

  5. The Triple Constraint

  8. Tubas Governmental Hospital

  9. Project overview The project is "Tubas Governmental Hospital" in tubas city. The building consist four stories, basement floor, ground floor, first floor and second floor. The ground floor and the first floor are the same. General information about building (case study): Total are of the building is 5304 m^2. High of each story is 4.25 m.

  10. project overview

  11. Objective and method of construction Objective: The main objective is: * Understanding the logic of project management & quantity Survey of the project * Know how to use management to reach the most economy, safety, minimum duration and good quality of the project.

  12. Objective and method of construction The method of construction: In this project two cases was used: First cases: construction all building then make finishing of all building. Second cases: construction and finishing in the same time (e.g. finishing ground floor and construction first floor in the same time).

  13. Tubas governmental hospital 1 Civil work 1.1 Mechanical work 1.2 Substructure 1.1.1 Superstructure 1.1.2 Earth work 1.1.1.1 foundation 1.1.1.2 Structure element 1.1.2.1 excavation 1.1.1.1.1 footing 1.1.1.2.1 Ground slab 1.1.2.1.1 column 1.1.2.1.2 leveling 1.1.1.1.2 Shear wall 1.1.2.2 Walls 1.1.2.1.3 Back fill 1.1.1.1.3 Roof slab 1.1.2.1.4 disposal 1.1.1.1.4 beams 1.1.2.1.5 Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) electrical work 1.3 Finishing 1.1.2.2 Doors and windows 1.1.2.2.1 plastering 1.1.2.2.2 tiles 1.1.2.2.3 painting 1.1.2.2.4

  14. calculation for foundation: Sample of calculation Calculate of concrete: Volume of concrete = number * length * width * depth = 12 * 1.3 * 1.0 * 0.4 = 6.24 m^3

  15. Sample of calculation Calculate of steel:

  16. Result After determine the quantity, duration and dependency between activities then use primavera project to get this result: Cost details: 1. the price for civil work is 1716840$ (22 %) from total cost. 2. the price for mechanical work is 2554000$(32.7 %) 3. the price for electrical work is 1530500$(19.6 %) 4. the price for equipment and machines 2000000$(25.7%)

  17. Comparison between the two cases: Result Case one: In the case one the total duration is 765 days Case two: In the case two the total duration is 553 days Note: the total cost is the same in two cases is $1,716,840 but the different in the cash flow

  18. S curve Case one:

  19. S curve Case two:

  20. Risk cases The risk cases took into consideration are: 1.political situation 2.Money exchange rate Solution: 1. Attempt to provide elements of the project within the same region. 2. Attempt to provide places to store what is enough for a month of work. 3. Currency stabilization as a payment.

  21. Conclusion The quantity surveying for each activity most be calculated according to Work Breakdown Structure. The management principles must be used to determine the ES, EF, FF and TF for each activity. Cost verses Time is not a problem.

  22. Recommendation • we prefer using case two because: Finish this project earlier and during this seven months difference, People in Tubas governorate need to expedite the construction of the hospital because of the occupation and the closure which prevents the exit outside the province in case of emergency, and also because of the lack of adequate medical centers to meet the needs of citizens.

  23. Can you be a good project manager? Ask yourself: • Can I say 'NO'? - Can I attack problems as soon as/even before they arise? • Can I live unloved? If you do your job well, people will wonder what you do!

  24. Project Management…. Work Smart Not Hard !!!

  25. Thanks For Your Attention
