  2. Background Demand for community garden sites growing in the District of North Vancouver Lillooet Community Garden only garden in the municipality Long wait list for garden plots and low turn-over Most requests from Lynn Valley and Seymour area
  3. OCP Policies District’s Official Community Plan (Bylaw 7900) supports the creation of community gardens in the municipality: 6.3.12 Encourage sustainable, local food systems through initiatives such as promotion of healthy, local food production, and the facilitation of community gardens, farmers markets, urban agriculture initiatives in appropriate locations. 6.3.13 Integrate opportunities for urban agriculture in planning Town and Village Centres
  4. Partnerships Community Gardens only exist through partnerships North Shore Community Garden Society Edible Garden Project also significant partner – provide resources, expertise and people power North Shore Recycling North Vancouver Recreation Commission Other partners: Community Associations, Lions Club, etc., etc.,
  5. Site Selection Staff team: Parks, Real Estate and Properties, Planning worked with North Shore Community Garden Society, Edible Garden Project and Community Associations to select the sites Based on an inventory completed approximately 5 years ago Location criteria include: Good solar exposure and light Accessible (flat) Prominent (not isolated) Proximity to multi-family Proximity to bus routes and washrooms Parking Access to water Programming and partnership opportunities
